'Inclusivity and Sustainability' is theme for Malaysia's chairmanship of Asean Summary: Malaysia has chosen the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability" for its chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This theme reflects the region's commitment to shared progress and ensuring that no one is left behind, while maintaining a focus on long-term sustainability. Key highlights: Inclusivity and Sustainability: The theme underscores Malaysia's vision for ASEAN, focusing on shared prosperity, inclusivity, and sustainable development. It aligns with ASEAN’s aspirations for the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, which will guide the region over the next two decades. Guided by Consensus: Anwar emphasized that Malaysia’s chairmanship will be governed by the principle of consensus, ensuring that decisions are made collaboratively, reinforcing a rules-based regional architecture. ASEAN's Peace and Prosperity: Malaysia aims to strengthen ASEAN's position as a region of peace, stability, and shared prosperity, while upholding the bloc’s core values. Broader Economic Partnerships: Malaysia will work to expand ASEAN's economic partnerships, particularly with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and China, which will be a focus of a summit in 2025. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗿𝗮𝗽-𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮: Today it was time to visit the beautiful country of Malaysia 🇲🇾. 1. An early morning start, and a brief encounter with a rather curtious robot serving coffee at Changi airport…luckily, it wasn’t big on words, and I wasn’t quite ready to get into a long conversation myself. A warm drink and some breakfast were enough😌. 2. Once in KL, it was time to meet old friends and new ones. I learned about clients’ ambitions for growth beyond present-day value propositions, from their unique perspectives, and what stands in the way of leaders introducing new strategic moves. As one example, the country’s Automotive sector, key to the Malaysian economy and employing nearly 800 000 people. It is also a sector at the cross-winds of the energy transition, with the rate of electrification similar to what we have studied and seen first-hand in South Africa. This is where new strategic moves become vital, as one ventures into the ecosystem. Some relevant comparatives here. 3. Met our ecosystem partner Dennis Akkerman of the Orbis Business School, was so nice to have this face-to-face conversation. Congrats Dennis on your newly-released book 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 (all matching there in red😌) 4. Got to appreciate the naunced environment challenger firms face in the ASEAN region. There are some striking similarities here to what we can expect to see as the AfCFTA grows in the coming years.
