Renault competes with manufacturers of Evs based in China, or does it? When I enjoyed the benefit of a two month visit to Romania last year I had the privilege to drive around Targoviste, Romania and Transylvania in a Dacia Spring - an all electric vehicle from a business wholly owned by Renault and built, entirely, in China. Though Giles Guillaume makes no mention of the Dacia Spring in his news story for Reuters (https://lnkd.in/exaJ6zbV), he does offer a lot of additional information leading me to conclude a big driver for Renault may be clone the manufacturing capability it already has in China with an entirely compatible effort in the EU. If I am right, then I would further conclude geo-fencing priorities have become a lot more pressing than they were as recently as 6 months ago. Guillaume's story also gets me thinking Renault is incorporating some of Elon Musk's manufacturing innovations in their EV production process. I expect Renault's competitors are doing the same. If you are reading this post and have further information about the fate of Renault's Dacia Spring please let us know. #renault #daciaspring #evs #geofencing #leanmanufacturing

🚗 Renault, VW End Talks on Affordable EV Project ⚡ [This was supposed to be one of the main answers to the low priced Chinese BEVs] 👥 Missed Opportunity: Renault Group and Volkswagen have ended their discussions to jointly develop an affordable full-electric Twingo, a potential partnership that could have united European giants against Asian rivals. 💰 Cost Challenges: Sharing the work aimed to cut costs, a key hurdle for European automakers facing cheaper Chinese EVs entering the market. 🔜 Next Steps: Renault will continue developing its electric Twingo alone, targeting a sub-€20,000 price tag for a 2026 launch, while VW may pursue its own affordable EV solution. 💼 CEO Perspective: Renault CEO Luca de Meo expressed regret over the "lost opportunity" for European industry collaboration but remains open to future partnerships. #Renault #Volkswagen #EVs #Automotive #Collaboration #AffordableEVs https://lnkd.in/e97TVFUv

Renault posted a better-than-expected operating profit for the first half of the year as reported, due to strong pricing and new vehicle launches, and stuck to its full-year profit-margin forecast. The French automaker reported that its first-half sales volume rose +1.9% versus the same period in 2023 due to the strong performance of hybrid models in Europe, its key region. “These record results are the fruit of a considerable work made by the Renault Group teams over the last years. Our efforts to reduce costs and focus our commercial policy on value are reflected in a new line-up, the best one that this company has had in 3 decades. We have implemented the traditional levers of performance improvement, but we have also reconnected the company with the innovative mindset that once made its golden years”, said Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group.
