Our treasured board member, Gundula Rhoades, took the stage at our ‘Partnering with Nature for Enhanced Biodiversity’ farmer event last week, and let us tell you, she had the crowd hooked! We gathered on Kamilaroi Country by the beautiful Macintyre River, with our CEO, Helen McCosker, right by her side. Gundy brought along her trusty microscope, unveiling some pretty amazing results from various soil tests. For many, it was their first glimpse into the world beneath our feet—a real eye-opener! The feedback we received was fantastic, and it’s clear everyone left inspired and buzzing with ideas. We’re already looking forward to our next gathering in Tamworth, and if you’d like to be part of the action, don’t hesitate to reach out at gday@carbon8.org.au. We’d love to have you along for the ride!

Regen Farmers Mutual has been a core partner in helping Landcare Victoria find business models that better support landcare networks by accessing pools of capital beyond grants. These include: Environmental Markets, Supply Chains and Local Economy Opportunities. This years efforts saw 2 regions pilot our Landscape Impact Planning process and will see a further 2 pilots in 2025 that incorporate our joint learnings from 2024. These will be better equipped and no less exciting. Bring on the next 2 VIC landscapes.
It was wonderful to celebrate the launch of the Windharp Horizons' Landscape Action Plan in St Arnaud recently, developed as part of the New Futures for Victorian Landcare project. Well done to working group, who deserve a huge congratulations on their hard work in getting their plan finalised and launched! Thanks to our project partners Regen Farmers Mutual, Sustainable Farms and Landscape Finance Lab for supporting the group along the journey. Thanks also to our funders, The Ian Potter Foundation and Natural Resources Conservation Trust for their generous support. Read more on our website: https://bit.ly/41jEyMI

A win for community organising and the arid lands - Buffel grass has been declared a weed across the Northern Territory! Buffel grass is a major threat to biodiversity, transforming landscapes and altering fire regimes. This landmark decision is the result of decades of relentless advocacy and community organizing. A victory is not just for the community but for the desert plants and animals that desperately needed this outcome. Now, to get on with stoping the spread! To understand the issue and possible solutions check out the Arid Lands Environment Centre’s position paper, Firestorm - Understanding the risks and seizing the opportunities to better manage buffel grass across the Territory. - https://lnkd.in/g_3XmeNw

Last week at Warwick University, we saw how England's landscapes are being transformed through the Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund (NEIRF). NEIRF is an innovative way to finance nature recovery and leverage partnership working. Our funded projects are turning wetlands into business opportunities, protecting rivers through innovative farming, and creating wildlife corridors that work for both nature and local economies. We’re announcing the full list of Round 3 grantees, supporting new ways for farmers to take part in nature markets. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gxjbxEYZ

🦉 How much do you know about Little Owl? They're cute, they’re small, they’re fluffy. They are also an indicator of healthy ecosystems. Adorably, little owls want to be our neighbors, and find the most comfort near human settlements! They are what’s called a ‘synanthropic species,’ which means they thrive best close to human settlements rather than in complete wilderness. Or to be more precise: they need the right blend of human settlement and natural diversity. But guess what? They are being driven out of their homes by human activity. Their nesting sites are under threat from farming, pesticide use, big agriculture, ground clearance, and various other human interventions. This has resulted in their decline on the European mainland, putting them on the Species of European Conservation Concern. That's why last year, we installed 25 nesting boxes to help bring the owls to a self-sustaining population in an area close to Berlin. The result: more than half were occupied by owl families, making it a huge success! But the work is not over, and this year, we’re going back to support our feathered friends and bring even more funding. Stay tuned for our next mission. Curious about last year’s mission? We’ve got you covered: https://lnkd.in/dUcPnNFE

Please support this effort. Plankton represent the largest continuous ecological group on the planet. Yet at high levels we hardly discuss them, the impacts that climate change have upon them from a holistic angle, the critical role that their diversity plays in food webs and sustainability or in biogeochemical cycles, nor do we teach about them to the young generation. We need to change this situation
The Plankton Manifesto is launching in 1 month! We hope you are excited to dive into the world of plankton and discover the solutions they can offer 🦐

In 2018, Kenvue stopped mowing 25 acres of its lawn connected to its manufacturing plant in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, allowing the lawn to naturalize. After 2 years, the company was met with impressive results. Learn how this small effort increased biodiversity and restored the area's ecosystem in our white paper, Aligning Corporate Nature Actions to the Global Biodiversity Framework, sponsored by Cemex: https://lnkd.in/gCfj9TFP
