🌍 Are we ready to scale sustainable solutions for the transport sector? 🚢✈️   Not yet, but we will be one step closer after the conference “Scaling Sustainable Bio- and E-fuels for Marine, Aviation, Material, and Chemicals,” organized by IDA Energy, LowCarbFuels.dk and the Danish Technological Institute (thank you John Lindegaard Kjær).   As the global transport and manufacturing industries move toward more sustainable solutions, bio- and e-fuels play a crucial role in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. But how do we scale these technologies to make a real impact? This event will explore the challenges, solutions, and potential for bio- and e-fuels in air, marine, and industrial applications. [MEET OUR PARTNERS] This week we’d like to introduce you to our Norwegian partner Gjenkraft AS. 🔷 Gjenkraft offers recycling services for #composites waste generated by the #wind energy and other sectors. It sells the recovered materials for use in new products. The company’s advanced thermal treatment process enables the #recovery of glass fibres, carbon fibres and synthetic fuels. Gjenkraft is actively promoting the sustainable #recycling of wind turbine #blades and developing new products using these materials. 🔷 In the REFRESH project Gjenkraft will design and deploy an upgrade to its pilot plant to recycle the composite materials from wind blades. 🚀 Composites Breaking Boundaries 🚀 Let's talk about ✨ZEBRA Project ✨ The pioneering ZEBRA (Zero wastE Blade ReseArch) project, led by IRT Jules Verne, marks a major milestone in the recycling and circular economy of wind turbine blades. Together with an incredible consortium of partners, it has demonstrated a fully closed-loop recycling system that brings significant environmental and economic benefits Key Highlights: 🔹 Two wind turbine blades manufactured with Arkema’s Elium® resin and Owens Corning’s Ultrablade® fabrics, including recycled materials. 🔹 Arkema achieved 75% yield in recycling Elium® monomer via thermolysis, paving the way for industrial-scale recycled resin production. 🔹 Owens Corning recovered glass fiber, reintroducing it into their Sustaina® product line. 🔹 ENGIE’s life cycle analysis demonstrated both the environmental and economic viability of ZEBRA blades. By recycling manufacturing waste and end-of-life blades into new materials, the project is tackling one of the industry's biggest challenges—blade disposal. The START project is transforming how we think about the thermoelectric (TE) technology by turning mine waste into sustainable, tellurium-free devices. This innovative approach not only taps into the EU's abundant secondary resources but also offers a powerful, eco-friendly solution for waste heat recovery systems.
