As chronic absenteeism continues to rise, it's clear that students are struggling to connect with classroom experiences. In North Carolina, the development of the 'Portrait of a Graduate' was a collaborative endeavor that involved nearly 1,200 residents and helped re-engage students. This model of community engagement serves as a robust framework for other states, showcasing how direct participation from local communities can drive more meaningful and effective transformation in education. https://hubs.li/Q02NJrGW0

The Importance of Early Exposure to Career Opportunities in Education At Root2Rise, we firmly believe that early exposure to career opportunities in education is crucial for shaping the future of our communities. Our program, which places high school students in K-8 classrooms as academic tutors and behavioral mentors, not only benefits the younger students but also provides invaluable experiences for the Tutor-Mentors themselves. Research has shown that early exposure to career opportunities can significantly impact students' future aspirations and success. According to an American School Counselor Association study, "Early career awareness and exploration activities can help students better understand their interests, skills, and values, leading to more informed decision-making about their future" (Curry & Milsom, 2017). Furthermore, exposing students to careers in education can help address the growing teacher shortage crisis. A report by the Learning Policy Institute states that "providing high school students with opportunities to explore teaching can help build a pipeline of future educators" (Darling-Hammond et al., 2016). At Root2Rise, we have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of early career exposure. Our Tutor-Mentors gain valuable skills that are crucial for thriving in any career. Moreover, many of our participants have expressed a newfound interest in pursuing careers in education after their experience in the program. By partnering with school districts and providing a comprehensive support system for our Tutor-Mentors, we are investing in the future of our students and our education system. Every student should have the chance to discover their passions and discover their potential, and we are committed to making that a reality through our program. Be part of our movement to inspire and equip tomorrow's leaders of leaders and educators. 🌟 Empowering Special Education Students: How We Can Help Them Thrive 🌟 Recently, a parent of one of my 6th grade students sent a heartfelt note to school. They shared that, after a day in class, their child had shown new levels of emotion and verbal communication at home—something they had never seen before. The parent thanked me for creating a safe and supportive environment for their child to learn and grow. Moments like this remind me why I’m so passionate about this work. Seeing a child feel safe enough to express themselves is incredibly rewarding, and it truly makes my heart happy. Thank you to all who support these amazing students and believe in the power of creating inclusive, caring spaces. Supporting special education students is about more than academic accommodations—it’s about creating an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and capable. Here are a few ways we can make a positive impact: 1. Prioritize Communication: Open, honest conversations with students and their families can uncover unique needs and preferences, making it easier to provide tailored support. 2. Incorporate Flexibility: Every student learns differently, and adjusting teaching styles or materials can make a big difference. Flexibility shows our commitment to helping each student reach their potential. 3. Encourage Confidence and Self-Advocacy: Empower students to understand their strengths and needs, which builds self-confidence and enables them to advocate for themselves. 4. Celebrate Small Wins: Progress looks different for everyone, and acknowledging each step forward keeps students motivated and engaged. 🤗 Creating a supportive and adaptable environment isn’t just beneficial for students with special needs—it strengthens the whole community. Let’s work together to make education a space where everyone feels empowered to succeed! 💪📚 #SpecialEducation #InclusiveEducation #Empowerment #EducationForAll #CommunityImpact #StudentSupport #InclusiveLearning #MakingADifference

The key to any type of engagement, regardless of the format, is education. Ensuring that education is at the core of everything we do is fundamental. For instance, if you are selling a product, but no one understands what it is, you can't expect people to buy it. Similarly, when services aim to engage with communities, education is crucial for effective engagement. However, education should not be a one-sided process. It's important that it is a two-way exchange. During this process, we should take the opportunity to learn about the community's culture, beliefs, and how these factors influence the services we want to provide. This mutual learning helps us adapt our methods to better suit the communities we engage with. By learning and adapting our approach, we can ensure more effective and meaningful engagement.

Social media can be sued as an amazing resource when discussing student engagement and creativity. The online world is an increasingly popular scene for students to thrive and communicate, and young populations will continue to use these resources frequently inside and outside of the classroom. "Analysis and research in formal schooling illuminate the utility of social media as an active learning strategy and virtual social network, permitting youth to engage and participate in politics and practice a plurality of the skills that Dewey (1927) referenced, while also enriching educational experience in the classroom (Galston, 2003; Hoffman, 2017; Kahne et al., 2016; Martens & Gainous, 2013)" (Kenna and Hensley, Pg. 87). In order for social media to be successful in the educational environment, it's important to teach the importance of online/digital etiquette and safety. When these strategies are implemented, social media can be used as an enriching and enhancing tool for creativity and communication in student populations given the relevancy of online resources and their social lives. "When implemented strategically, social media can do more than just promoting political and civic engagement; it also enriches content knowledge in the social studies by affording opportunities for meaningful and constructive expression and providing a clear view that participation is worthwhile and relevant to students’ lives" (Kenna and Hensley, Pg. 87). #TSUEDTC5356 Kenna, J. It equips them with a foundation of information and abilities that can be applied in various aspects of life. 2. Critical Thinking: A good education fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students learn to analyze information, evaluate different perspectives, and make informed decisions, which are crucial life skills. 3. Personal Development: Education contributes to personal development by promoting self-discipline, responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment. It helps students discover their strengths, interests, and passions. 4. **Social Skills:** Schools are environments where students interact with peers, teachers, and other members of the community. These social interactions can enhance communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work effectively with others. 5. Global Awareness: Education exposes students to a variety of cultures, perspectives, and ideas, fostering a broader understanding of the world. This global awareness is crucial in an interconnected and diverse society. 6. Career Opportunities: Education opens doors to a wide range of career opportunities. Well-educated individuals often have access to better job prospects, higher earning potential, and increased opportunities for advancement in their chosen fields. 7. **Empowerment:** Education empowers individuals by providing them with the tools and knowledge to take control of their lives. It can break the cycle of poverty, empower marginalized communities, and promote social mobility. 8. Educated individuals tend to make healthier lifestyle choices, have access to better healthcare, and are more likely to lead fulfilling lives. While education plays a vital role, it's important to note that the quality of education, access to educational resources, and the support systems in place also influence the extent of its impact on students' #education #socialskills #empowerment
