#Work_For_More_Than_Money When you first step into the business world as an entry-level engineer, it's easy to feel optimistic and believe you understand how things work. But often, that understanding is biased and self-centered, focused on "getting your share." Let me offer a different perspective. In Cameroon, no matter how much your boss admires your skills, raises are rarely based on talent alone—they’re tied to profitability. So, what can you learn from this? Treat every opportunity as a learning ground. Focus on understanding how the marketplace works and how you can leverage it to grow both personally and professionally. Build meaningful relationships, because even if a company cuts your salary or lets you go, the connections you make can lead to bigger opportunities. Business isn’t just about monetary profit. There’s relationship profit, opportunity profit, and exposure profit. Learn to recognize these, and you’ll grow in ways money can’t measure. Step out with a mindset bigger than just financial gain, and you'll find fulfillment in your work. Elevating your career isn’t just about salary—it's about the purpose and impact you create. Follow my advice for 6 months, apply it intentionally, and let’s celebrate your success story together. With Love from @Edmund Ayuk #Constructionmanager #Workingbeyond #Monetarygain

I've been digesting this interesting report by FSD Africa, and Shortlist Professionals supported by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) which reveals Africa's immense opportunities for green job creation by 2030! With an estimated 3 million direct jobs in 12 key sub-sectors, the #cleanenergy sector and #energytransition can drive the continent's #sustainabledevelopment. But that's not all - the potential for job creation extends far beyond 2030 up to 2050 & onwards, with vast opportunities in related sub-sectors waiting to be tapped. To realize this potential, we need intentional policy support, investment in training and training centers, strategic investments, and much more. Let's take this moment to reflect on our individual and collective efforts in the industry. How can we redirect our efforts to unlock Africa's green job potential? I'll be considering how some of the demand led policy support and technical assistance for capacity building we've been supporting on the continent can be better tailored to support more #greenjobs. The current job market in Africa presents numerous challenges, including high unemployment rates and economic instability exacerbated by the global pandemic and other socio-economic factors. Many professionals find themselves facing limited opportunities and stiff competition for the available roles. However, by focusing on upskilling in certain high-growth industries, individuals can significantly enhance their employability and open doors to promising career paths. 1. Information Technology (IT) and Digital Economy: The IT sector is crucial in Africa, with high demand for roles such as software developers, data scientists, cybersecurity experts, and digital marketers. The digital economy is expected to grow significantly, presenting opportunities in digital skills training and outsourcing high-demand skills like cybersecurity and data analytics. 2. Renewable Energy and Energy Value Chain: With the growing impact of climate change and geopolitical shifts, the renewable energy sector is expanding rapidly. Opportunities exist in solar power applications, local substitution of cooking fuels, and gas supplies to Europe. This sector is vital for addressing energy deficits and promoting sustainable development. 3. Healthcare and Life Sciences: The healthcare sector has seen increased demand, especially for roles in nursing and hospital administration, driven by the COVID-19 pandemic. There are also opportunities in biotech and pharmaceutical industries as Africa continues to improve its healthcare infrastructure. 4. Financial Services: Financial hubs like Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Cape Town are experiencing growth in demand for finance professionals, including financial analysts, investment bankers, and risk managers. This sector's resilience post-pandemic highlights its importance in maintaining economic stability. 5. Engineering and Infrastructure Development: Engineering remains a cornerstone of development in Africa, with high demand for civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers. These roles are crucial for infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and energy systems, addressing some of the continent’s most pressing challenges. Despite the current difficulties in the job market, the future holds significant potential for those who are proactive in enhancing their skill sets. By targeting emerging industries like IT, renewable energy, healthcare, and the digital economy, professionals can not only improve their chances of securing employment but also contribute to the continent's economic growth and development. Embracing continuous learning and upskilling will be key to navigating and succeeding in the evolving landscape of work in Africa. With determination and the right focus, individuals can turn the current challenges into opportunities for a brighter professional future.
