Reflecting on my recent one-on-one session with Lori (Goldenhersh) Ryan, Senior Director of Client Leadership at Mars United Commerce, I wanted to share five standout pieces of advice that deeply resonated with me. Her insights and experience provided invaluable guidance that I believe will benefit everyone. Here are my top five takeaways from our conversation: 𝟭. Treat everyone with equal respect, regardless of their position or status. 𝟮. Take full responsibility for your work. People respect those who own their mistakes and don’t shift blame onto others. 𝟯. When you make a mistake, view it as a learning opportunity and move forward. Mistakes are essential for growth and improvement. 𝟰. Be a reliable and dependable person- always be someone others can count on. 𝟱. Remember, time is money. Use it wisely and efficiently to maximize productivity.

“It’s Not Important What Position You Occupy, but What You Do with That Position” A title or position is merely a label; what truly defines a person is their actions and impact while holding that role. Whether you’re at the top of an organization, leading a small team, or contributing as an individual, the true measure of success lies in how you use your position to make a difference. The Value of Action Holding a position, no matter how prestigious, is meaningless if it isn’t used to create value. What you do with your role—how you serve others, make decisions, and inspire change—matters far more than the position itself. Leadership, for instance, is not about the title but about influence, vision, and empowering others. Impact Over Status History and business are filled with examples of people who transformed their positions into platforms for meaningful change. Their power wasn’t derived from their titles but from their actions, decisions, and contributions. Even those in seemingly small roles can make a significant impact if they focus on adding value. Responsibility Comes with Position Every position comes with the opportunity—and responsibility—to make things better. Whether leading a team, managing resources, or contributing to a project, what you do determines your legacy. Titles fade, but the impact of your actions can leave a lasting mark. Conclusion What truly matters is not where you sit but what you do with the position you hold. Strive to bring purpose, excellence, and positive change to whatever role you occupy. It’s through actions—not titles—that you make a difference and inspire those around you.

As we wrap up the year do the take the time to reflect, I’ve made it habit to sit with talent and iron out any issues and challenges faced before the close of the business calander, I also take such opportunities to highlight points that need improvements and any other factors that directly or indirectly affect our growth as team. It is imperative that a manager and his or her talent are constantly aligning to achieve the desired objectives. Take the time to sit and reflect.

What’s possible when you finally recover your time and energy? Deal with the self-doubt that can hold you back? Handle the unconscious biases you may face on a day to day basis in your workplace? Getting those fundamentals in place is a necessary first step, as they were for a client of mine. Only then could we focus in on her real passion: To develop her thought leadership, extend her career network beyond her company and build her personal brand. We clarified her vision and values, and tapped into her Zone of Genius. From her vision, we needed to define and get really clear on the scope of her thought leadership. With that clarity, she could begin to develop and grow her niche. That, in turn, enabled her to identify the people she needed to connect with outside her organisation. People aligned with her vision, values and thought leadership niche. She now holds a global role in her company and has taken on board and non-executive director roles outside her company. If you’re excited to make a bigger impact by developing your thought leadership and personal brand, why not book a call with me to explore what’s possible for you? Link under my profile above.
