CONSULTANT & ARTIST: creating opportunities for improvement: Business Strategy & Advisory Board work, Culture & Communication, Operational efficiencies, processes & systems, support with HR, IT, H&S; Property Management

Having just attended my first ever IoD/Institute of Directors in New Zealand Conference in Ōtautahi Christchurch, at the impressive Te Pae Convention Centre - I naturally have a lot of learnings bouncing around in my head. Key for me was that more young and future governance &/or leaders should be exposed to conferences like this. If only I knew then what I know now….what an opportunity for diversity & succession right there! How to open doors that have been late to my own plate - is an exciting opportunity for our up&comers! From the hugely informative presentation by Dr Reuben Abraham, with some key opportunity-based messages for NZ & our economy. To appreciation of the all important CEO/Chair relationship as presented by Carrie Hurihanganui & Patrick Strange from Auckland Airport cemented my belief that this relationship is key for a well functioning board - helping ensure that strategy is understood & executed as it flows from board to management and back again. There is no doubt that I was completely enthralled by the information presented by Maryanne Garry - ‘most laughs award’ while presenting some important factual Information about perceived ability to remember everything you do not hear or think you are capable of in the boardroom. H&S was key and it was appreciated that the presenters steered the conversation away from an extreme, high risk, highly specific event and to redirect learnings into practical & thought provoking lessons for all businesses - even our smallest business could learn from. Loved the top 10 tips for taking the bored out of the boardroom and the opportunity to explore the opposite. A creative approach I appreciated and resonated with! So much more I could add! What an opportunity to expand my learnings.
