Having just attended my first ever IoD/Institute of Directors in New Zealand Conference in Ōtautahi Christchurch, at the impressive Te Pae Convention Centre - I naturally have a lot of learnings bouncing around in my head. Key for me was that more young and future governance &/or leaders should be exposed to conferences like this. If only I knew then what I know now….what an opportunity for diversity & succession right there! How to open doors that have been late to my own plate - is an exciting opportunity for our up&comers! From the hugely informative presentation by Dr Reuben Abraham, with some key opportunity-based messages for NZ & our economy. To appreciation of the all important CEO/Chair relationship as presented by Carrie Hurihanganui & Patrick Strange from Auckland Airport cemented my belief that this relationship is key for a well functioning board - helping ensure that strategy is understood & executed as it flows from board to management and back again. There is no doubt that I was completely enthralled by the information presented by Maryanne Garry - ‘most laughs award’ while presenting some important factual Information about perceived ability to remember everything you do not hear or think you are capable of in the boardroom. H&S was key and it was appreciated that the presenters steered the conversation away from an extreme, high risk, highly specific event and to redirect learnings into practical & thought provoking lessons for all businesses - even our smallest business could learn from. Loved the top 10 tips for taking the bored out of the boardroom and the opportunity to explore the opposite. A creative approach I appreciated and resonated with! So much more I could add! What an opportunity to expand my learnings.

I found myself excited to be back at Charlotte Douglas International Airport this morning ahead of the Region 06 Spring Forum on Friday, hosted by IRWA Chapter 26. While there I grabbed breakfast at Einstein Bros. Bagels, which reminded me of when I would meet Jason Bloch at this same spot as we travelled to IRWA Region 6 forums and the International Right of Way Association Education Conference as representatives of IRWA CHAPTER 31. My first thought was, "I've been doing this so many years, I'm nostalgic! That's crazy!" But clearly I do this because the importance the IRWA plays in the right of way industry, which is true of the literally hundreds of chapter presidents and international directors who are driving, flying, maybe even sailing to their respective Spring forums across the United States and Canada. So, first, bravo to the region officers for putting together their forums, and bravo to the chapter officers for facilitating with additional education and networking opportunities, which is no mean feat! Second, I encourage all the chapter directors to engage ardently during your forum. I am the first to admit it can be hard to give these rather mundane, interminable items one's full attention after a day or two of courses, an education symposium, and several networking events, especially under the fluorescent lights of a drab conference room, oftentimes in a location with some many amazing things going on just outside the hotel (Alas NOLA, we spent so little time together!). Nevertheless, the spring forum is your best chance to vet the items you will be asked to vote 'for' or 'against' at the board of director's meeting in Long Beach. In my mind, this is critical because: Chapters form the association; members form the chapters; chapter leaders guide their chapters, and effective leadership requires engagement and education. Thus, I encourage you all to lead at your forums; ask the hard questions, or the fifth question; make your motion; shoot your shot. Your region, your chapter, the association wants, actually needs, your leadership today, tomorrow, and always. Ok, that's off my chest. Now to upload documents to Member Network. 😅

Like anything - when we become too comfortable, accustomed or routinised in our approach to work... we miss the opportunity to continually refine and sharpen our skillset. That's why I'm obsessed with the continual devotion to both personal and professional development. Getting thrown into a completely new environment to figure things out can be one of the greatest catalysers to thinking in a far more expansive way... which can support us to come back to our regular routines with a refreshed perspective and far more enthusiasm to problems that once felt uninspiring. So if you're a company director - I would love to invite you to Australian Institute of Company Directors upcoming Sydney Boardroom Hypothetical. Picture you + a mock board of fellow directors, getting to work together to tackle complex governance scenarios, under the guidance of a seasoned facilitator. The experience will help you unravel your unconscious biases, recognise and side step group thinking, and enhance decision making prowess to maximise your efficiency as a director. https://lnkd.in/e9B2ae2T As someone who loves variety being a founder in our team coaching business The Teamery Co gives me the opportunity to work with diverse teams globally and be part of something bigger than me. Its been a journey helping potential clients see the benefit of team coaching and steadily we are building our own stories of success, change and performance #teamcoaching #teams #performance #consultancy
We're sharing our story of origin! ↴ Teamery’s story began as an idea when our four founders studied the Advanced Professional Business Coaching certification at the Gordon Institute of Business Science in Johannesburg South Africa... We had known one another for many years, and the idea of partnering together as a team felt like an exciting opportunity as we had already been sharing ideas about shifting our coaching lens from individual leaders to working with teams. It was in one of these idea-sharing conversations during the Covid-19 pandemic that Elaine suggested ‘Teamery’ as our name and our chats turned into a real business idea based around team coaching. We know first-hand the exponential power of the collective to combine energy and ideas to find solutions and have fun whilst working as a team towards a common goal. It has been a wonderful experience to build on the foundation of friendship and respect that we started with and to grow something that we are all really invested in and proud of. We are a team, and we try to live the values in our team that we espouse to others. Fast forward to now and the never-ending change and challenge of our fast-moving world. To face that, we need great teams that can focus on raising their performance through building relationships, understanding the abilities of their team members and being brave, willing to fail and continuously learn from situations and one another. We take the health of our own team seriously and have learnt some hard lessons since we began in 2021, but we have grown through those and we continue to weave our story together. We are fortunate to be an international team – Karen is in England and Elaine in Dublin, Ireland – and this enables us to partner with teams anywhere in the world. - Teamery Elaine SEALE-MCKEND, Dr Karen Gubb, Kerrin Miller & Kirstie McFarlane Building Better Teams #teamcoaching #buildingbetterteams #teams

Successful Board members are often said to have certain traits and to behave in a certain way. However, such assertions do not hold up to real-world scrutiny. In the real world, each Board and each Board member succeeds, or not, in a unique context. So, there can be no set of general traits or way of working that will lead to Board effectiveness. However, research into Board effectiveness guides us that there are good practices — a framework to understand and develop Board effectiveness emerges. Ann Roughead, accomplished and experienced Board Chair and Richard Moore, CEO and Board member at MU, guide us through the practice and science of Board effectiveness. What are the most important things to get right, for your Board to do valuable work? Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/dYSi5PH2 For more details how we work and what we can do for you & your board/team - please contact me directly.
