Entertainment vs addiction in gambling conversation can be a tough one. Where I come from, playing an "entertainment card", especially regarding slots, could quickly disqualify you for making excuses to legitimize the exploitation of individuals. Public perception has the power to shape the gambling policy, not necessarily for good. Classic gambling misconceptions, media coverage of most severe addiction cases and strong voices only from one side of the spectrum can create inaccurate images of what gambling causes on a large scale and how to reduce harm from it successfully. The truth is that many people play only with the desire to change their situation. Mindlessly fluxed into spinning wheels and (un)sure game results. Without the idea of how gambling works, what risks are included, how that risk could be managed and with no oversight from the operator, severe harm can be done. But the majority still do it for the thrill of the game, that excitement about the next outcome. Risking is fun, but it is better to be aware of what is at stake. No one is entirely safe from harm; thus, it must be decreased continuously and appropriately. Preventing the transition from entertainment to addiction is a complex issue, and it is more and more evident that one size will not fit all. Especially in online gambling with easy access to offshore operators. Empowering and supporting individuals through education, oversight, and interaction is the right way forward. These are just a few thoughts that emerged from the excellent conversation I had with Duncan Garvie, David Richardson, and Ciaran Henry at the EDGE Gaming Expo last week. Being part of this innovative event that merges players with industry was a pleasure. Oh, and the charming Dublin.

I've been closely following the UK government's new measures to address gambling addiction, particularly in online slots. These reforms, aimed at protecting vulnerable players, are a significant step forward for responsible gambling and should be widely applauded. At the same time, they bring new challenges and opportunities for game developers, operators, and the broader iGaming industry. 💭 How will these changes influence game design and player engagement strategies? 💭 What innovations might emerge as we navigate these new constraints? I'm particularly interested in hearing from game developers and studio leaders: 💭 How are you planning to adapt your development processes to align with these changes? 💭 Will these reforms create a need for new skills or roles in your teams? Let’s collaborate on solutions that uphold player safety while driving innovation. #iGaming #GamblingRegulation #GameDevelopment #ResponsibleGambling https://lnkd.in/g3NcN2-6

How Does Someone Get Addicted To Gambling? I'm Rob and I'm in recovery for a gambling addiction. I made my last bet November 12th, 2022 and since then I've made it my mission to create content aimed at helping people avoid making the same mistakes that I did as a problem gambler. I started off with daily fantasy sports contests, which quickly spiraled into sports betting, casino games, and a full blown gambling addiction. I was a high achieving student and had a decent job, I was not the typical poster child of someone who would develop a gambling problem. That's because, in the modern era with gambling online, it can impact anyone from any background now. ANYONE can get addicted to gambling. At the core of gambling addiction is the thrill and excitement that comes with placing bets and the anticipation of a potential win. This rush of adrenaline triggers the brain's reward system, releasing dopamine which reinforces the behavior. Over time, individuals may develop a tolerance to these feelings, leading them to seek out higher stakes and riskier bets to achieve the same level of excitement. Gambling offers an escape from reality for some people, providing a temporary distraction from stress, anxiety, or other underlying issues. Additionally, environmental factors such as easy access to gambling venues (now it's easy for everyone since it's online), constant exposure to advertisements, and societal normalization of gambling can contribute to the development of addiction. Social pressures, peer influence, and cultural attitudes towards risk-taking also play a role in shaping an individual's relationship with gambling. To effectively address a gambling addiction, it is crucial to follow a structured approach. The first step involves finding alternative activities to fill the time that would otherwise be spent gambling. The second step is to limit access to money that could be used for gambling. This can be achieved by setting up financial barriers, such as giving control of finances to a trusted individual or using prepaid cards with limited funds. Self-exclusion from casinos or gambling establishments is another crucial step in breaking the cycle of addiction. By voluntarily banning oneself from these environments, individuals create a physical barrier that prevents easy access to gambling opportunities. This decision demonstrates a commitment to change and a willingness to take proactive measures to avoid triggers. Lastly, attending support group meetings can provide invaluable assistance in overcoming a gambling addiction. These meetings offer a safe space to share experiences, receive encouragement, and learn coping strategies from others facing similar challenges. Let's conquer gambling addiction together, one day at a time! Article Sourced From: https://lnkd.in/eHHC2Uzm

Promoting Responsible Play During Safer Gambling Week This year’s Safer Gambling Week serves as a constant reminder of the need for industry stakeholders to consistently encourage conversations and raise awareness about safer gambling. There is no doubt that while gambling can be enjoyable for many punters, some are still exposed to risks. This is why ongoing conversations around safer gambling education, awareness, and support are always essential. I would therefore like to use this year’s Safer Gambling Week to highlight key reminders for safer gambling: Key Reminders for Safer Gambling • Set Limits: Setting deposit limits is a useful way to help punters protect themselves from financial harm. • Know the Signs: It is crucial to recognize when gambling stops being fun and starts affecting other areas of life. This may manifest as addiction or chasing losses, which can lead to significant harm. • Use Support Tools: Leverage tools such as self-exclusion, time-outs, take-a-break options, and deposit limit settings to manage gambling habits responsibly. • Seek Help: If gambling begins to cause stress or becomes problematic, free and confidential support is available through trusted organizations like GamCare and BeGambleAware. For GamCare, visit:https://lnkd.in/eiY84UEi For BeGambleAware, visit: https://lnkd.in/egvQdWik At GB Sports Advisors Ltd, our dedicated safer gambling team recognizes the responsibility we have to protect our customers while providing easy access to safer gambling tools. We Need to Act! Safer Gambling Week is not just about gambling operators it’s about all of us. Let’s work together to create an environment where gambling remains what it is meant to be: a form of entertainment. 3moWhat worries me is that Guru Casino, a supposedly player-help platform, is covering up dishonest operators. Under the guise of caring for users, they can promote casinos that have dubious policies towards players. This raises questions about the transparency and honesty of their recommendations. After all, players trust such platforms, expecting objective and honest assessments, but in the end they can face problems.
