Inclusion, & the accommodations & supports needed for full inclusion, is a civil right. But today, fewer than half of preschoolers w/ #disabilities are receiving their services in inclusive settings. That must change. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gbUZR2Pk #DisabilityPrideMonth

Active Disability Ireland are delighted to share our Research Report: Teachers' Experience of Physical Activity for Students with Disabilities. Within the school setting, teachers are responsible for ensuring that all students are included within physical activity, however, the reality for many is that there are barriers which make this difficult. This report sheds light on some of the challenges faced by teachers and how they can be better supported to deliver inclusive physical activity to all students. On #InternationalDisabilityDay, the University of Pretoria's Access, Disability & Inclusion Services (ADIS, formerly the Disability Unit), is on a quest to raise awareness among students with disabilities about the assistance available to them. “A lot of people, when they talk about disability, only think about those you can see. But many disabilities are invisible… There are still students who only discover that they qualify to receive our services in their second or third year. Our goal is to make sure every student who needs help knows where to find it,” says Juan Erwee, the manager of ADIS. What do our caregivers say about Baby Ubuntu? We believe our caregivers voices speak strongly to the impact of the programme. 💬 Here’s what one Ugandan mama had to say about the changes she has seen in her child through engaging in the programme. Baby Ubuntu is a participatory group progamme which aims to: - Increase caregiver knowledge, confidence and skills in caring for their child with a developmental disability - Promote inclusion and participation of children with disability within the family and community - Maximise a child’s developmental potential, health and quality of life - Promote empowerment of caregivers through information sharing and peer support - Promote the human rights of children with disability #BabyUbuntu #inclusion #disability

Bridging the gap between typically developing children and their disabled children is vital. We are working towards equality. Events that support many children are often not suitable for children with a physical or sensory disability (e.g., children may require adapted bikes to take part in this event, which comes at an extra expense). Scope are keen to support funding of activities for those with additional needs. Take a look here 👇 💻 https://lnkd.in/efX7Q8SN #Disability #InclusionMatters #Neurodiversity

More students are falling through the cracks and missing out on Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA)—what does that mean for their support? When students didn’t qualify for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA), the University of Bristol needed a better way to support them. With D&A’s Assistive Technology (AT) training, their staff can now confidently recommend the right tools, ensuring more students get the practical help they need. 💬 "We can now reach more students and make suggestions that genuinely work for them," said Andrew Warrington, Disability Adviser. Are you looking to upskill your team on assistive technology?
