It is so sad to see these incredibly regressive moves against children. Are we interested in revenge or effectiveness? Responses do need to vary according to a child's age and severity of offending, However punitive approaches simply don't work. Effective responses factor in that children involved in serious offending tend to have lives blighted by things they have no control over - poverty and early trauma. What is associated with reduced offending is diversionary and holistic approaches to dealing with children’s needs. #children #criminalresponsibility #leadership #communityservices
Members of the #AustralianNPM made a joint statement. The statement raises concerns about the Northern Territory’s proposal to reintroduce the use of spit hoods on children in both youth detention and police custody. We call on the NT Government to listen to informed local NT voices. We also implore all Australian governments to legislate a ban on spit hood use on children in detention, employ appropriate alternative strategies, and ensure any use of force against children remains a last resort. We, the Islamic Women’s Initiative for Justice, Law and Peace (IWILAP); The Women’s Probono Initiative, Center for Domestic Violence Prevention (CEDOVIP), & UGANET, condemn the victimization of Hajat Zuurah as she seeks justice for her 14-year-old daughter. Public parading & mob justice by officials is unacceptable. We call for: 📢 UMSC & Sheikhs: Avoid victim-blaming; promote due process in line with Islamic principles. 📢 Officials & MPs: Ensure safe, confidential environments for reporting violence. 📢 Police & Judiciary: Protect victims & families, investigate mob violence, and ensure fair proceedings. Respect due process & prioritize victim protection. #JusticeForHajatZuurah #EndMobJustice #ProtectVictims"

In complete agreeance! States are starting to move toward laws against coercive control but some other countries have already criminalized it! In the US it is referred to as domestic VIOLENCE. That word alone is synonymous with physical. Domestic ABUSE is so much more than what the US criminalizes…physical abuse. Coercive control is dangerous! Coercive control can linger after the survivor leaves the relationship as post-separation abuse. Coercive control can linger for a lifetime for survivors. If damaging a survivor psychologically and taking away the survivors personal liberties and human rights isn’t criminal, we need to rethink a lot of things!! The reason why I am in community education. I work for a progressive and phenomenal agency, which supports me in creating presentations. I created a coercive control presentation and presented it for the first time this past week! I honestly cannot be more proud of the end result and it received very positive feedback from the attendees!!! #coercivecontrol #communityeducation
Until coercive control and its impact is fully understood by all those working with survivors of domestic abuse, survivors of domestic abuse will keep on being failed and let down by the system that is supposed to support them and keep them safe. #CoerciveControl #Impact #Awareness #Training #Police #DWP #NHS #SocialWorkers #Housing #Probation #Prison
