Reduce Your Food Waste Meal plan, store food properly, and don’t forget to eat those leftovers! Try using sustainable options like beeswax wraps or silicone stretch lids to keep your food fresh. 🌱 4. Retaaza brings fresh food access to communities and campuses through our Farm Stands, which are a bit different than traditional farmers markets. By pre-buying food from our farmer partners, we allow them to focus on farm-related activities while we engage directly with customers on their behalf. Always focused on reducing food waste, we find meaningful purpose for the produce left over by donating it to community organizations who work with our hungry neighbors. Did you know that more than one-quarter of food produced is wasted globally each year? This has major social, environmental and economic consequences. It’s common for delegate numbers to fluctuate in the lead-up to an event and estimating food quantities can be tricky. At The CCD, we ensure that regular communication between clients and the hospitality manager about likely numbers can allow for adjustments in catering requirements. This helps to avoid producing unnecessary food and, in turn, reducing food waste. Other initiatives, such as donating food to local schools or charities are creative ways to manage waste after an event. Today, on Stop Food Waste Day, we want to highlight some tips and tricks you can easily implement in to your daily life to make small but significant changes in how we care for our food.

One of our core beliefs is to grow food with purpose. For us, this isn't just about delivering high-quality produce, it's about giving back to the community and making a positive impact where it's needed most. We strive to keep waste as low as possible, and today we dropped off our fresh flower cos lettuce to OzHarvest 🥬 Through our partnerships with OzHarvest, we're helping fight food insecurity by donating our greens to nourish those in need. Here's a practical way to help some unhoused folk in Toronto and Peel manage the upcoming heatwave.

As part of our ongoing sustainability initiatives, we're supporting OzHarvest this month with a donation of over 700kg of flour.   With the rising cost of living, more and more Australian’s are struggling to put food on the table. Not only is OzHarvest providing relief for those in need, they’re also fighting to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill – a goal we share here at Kez’s Kitchen.   OzHarvest expressed their gratitude, sharing that the demand for support has never been higher, and our contribution will help them create an abundance of bread for those in need.   We encourage others in businesses in food #manufacturing to consider donating any excess product and ingredients - to help make a positive impact on their community and the #environment.   OzHarvest accepts all perishable and frozen food (including dairy, fish and meat, fresh juice) which is on or before its ‘use by date’ as long as it is still fit for human consumption, and all non-perishable food even if it is up to 3 months past its ‘best before date’.   Visit ozharvest.org to learn more.   #KezsKitchen #SustainabilityInitiatives #GiveBack #CommunitySupport

During my recent work with two large UK event organizations to gain practical insights into food waste across various sectors, I observed the staggering amount of food waste generated after events. UK businesses waste approximately 1.1 million tonnes of food each year. Meanwhile, 4 million people are facing food insecurity. By redirecting just a fraction of this waste, we could make a significant impact on both the environment and our communities. Organizations like WRAP, Zero Waste Scotland, and FareShare UK are working to tackle these issues, but we all have a part to play. For Companies: 1. Promote Food Redistribution: Encourage venues to donate surplus food to charities like FareShare, helping to reduce waste and feed those in need. 2. Support Sustainable Practices: Advocate for smaller portion sizes and flexible menus to minimize waste. 3. Facilitate Donations: Partner with local charities to ensure excess food from events are donated effectively. For Individuals: 1. Share Leftovers: Offer your restaurant leftovers to someone in need. 2. Get Involved: Participate in local food drives or community fridges to help combat food insecurity. 3. Organize Food Swaps: Create food swaps in your community to exchange excess food and strengthen connections.
