2 types of sponsorship seeker After working with 500 sponsorship seekers to increase revenue… speaking in dozens (hundreds?) of events and workshops… and acting as the subject matter expert for Eventbrite's sponsorship certification course… I’ve realized that those we mostly work with fall into 2 categories. 1. try and fail to make something work, realizing only limited success 2. absolutely MUST make it work otherwise they have to give up on their dream If you fall into either of those categories, let’s talk. Why you don’t hear back from sponsors GHOSTED! It’s happened to me. It’s happened to you. It’s happened to everyone. You send a proposal — hopefully because things are going well — and suddenly you don’t hear back. Or they say something like, “We’ve decided to go in another direction.” When this happens, a lot of sponsorship seekers think it’s because they need to get better at the proposal. NO. It’s not a proposal problem. It’s an “everything you do BEFORE the proposal” problem. They WANT to meet sponsorship seekers & event and property owners. But mostly what they get is 1,000s of terrible proposals sitting in their “trash” folder. So, they’re budgeting for the ones who can ACTUALLY get them an ROI. AKA those who: 1. Know their audience data 2. Have an accurate valuation 3. Can engage in discovery without pitching 4. Sponsor SECURED A lot of sponsorship-seekers are the opposite of the image below. They settle for whatever they can get from sponsors. They tend to want to get the sponsor at any cost, then keep them around at any cost. So they tend to take the very first offer. Which means they certainly don’t have what it takes to negotiate a sponsor UP — by 2.5x — and close a cash deal. All I’m saying is that OUR clients don’t have that problem.
