The latest European Works Council has just been formed! Big congratulations to the the Special Negotiating Body (SNB) of Kyndryl who have concluded a European Works Council. It is nearly 3 years since the process was triggered-by representatives from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. In accordance with the rules of the EWC Directive, representatives from across Europe joined the EWC and negotiated the text of an agreement with Kyndryl management. There are about 2,000 companies across Europe which meet the threshold for forming an EWC. Yet the number of actually existing EWCs stands at about half that number. The Trade Union federations have a key role in the SNB process according to the Directive (in the case of Kyndryl, UNI Europa Birte Dedden). It is crucial that SNBs and EWCs use their rights under the Directive. Key to this is selecting experts of their choice under the means required.
