CDL has always believed that women can drive positive change through partnerships. CDL’s Women4Green Network is thrilled to be supporting HER Planet Earth’s film screening: “Gobi Rising – Women Leading Climate Action”, on 27 November, 2024, 6.00-8.00pm at the Singapore Sustainability Academy. HER Planet Earth is a Singapore-registered non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering women and communities at the frontlines of climate change through education, environmental conservation, and advocacy. They recently travelled to Mongolia in March 2024 with award-winning filmmaker Jacqui Hocking to support The Nature Conservancy’s work with local woman herders. Join us for the premiere of "Gobi Rising," a short documentary that highlights the incredible journey of 16 women in the Gobi Desert as they champion sustainable herding practices and lead climate action in their communities. This will be followed by a panel discussion which will explore the themes of the film, the importance of female leadership in climate action, and the broader implications for sustainable development. As 2024’s Climate Week NYC heads into its final few days, Boston Common’s Amy Orr is among the featured contributors today in one of the many events spotlighting women over the course of the week. Part of Confluence Philanthropy’s ongoing “What if Women..?” peer leadership initiative and hosted by the UNDP Climate Hub, the half-day retreat titled “Indigenous Forest Stewards and Investment Advisors” will gather women from these respective communities. Boston Common has been engaging financial companies on deforestation and its impact on Indigenous communities for well over a decade. Our recent engagement efforts have focused on biodiversity impact assessments, habitat conservation, eliminating commodity-driven deforestation, and defining expectations for the commercial and investment banking industry. With deforestation and forest degradation representing about one-fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions, it is essential for investors considering forest solutions to integrate consideration of social and environmental risks in order to successfully reorient economies to prioritize nature, Indigenous peoples’ rights, and women’s empowerment. #indigenouspeoplesrights #deforestationaction #climateweeknyc https://lnkd.in/eTtgMQ8d

Last year I left COP28 more than a little frustrated. Why? Probably for some of the similar reasons as others but also for one specific reason… How and why was it so hard to identify 150+ women in business and finance who were working towards unlocking solutions? Circa 100,000 people were expected to attend COP28. Yet when we were speaking to friends, business contacts and our network we would get a lot of similar responses: - "Most of the delegations I know going are all men" - "I know ‘x’ who is an amazing climate activist or campaigner" - "You need to meet this amazing lady doing the best work at x corporate, she’s not going to COP28 but is really driving solutions in her corporate/business/team etc". Reflecting on all the responses and seeing the astounding energy in the room at our Unlocking Solutions dinner with MSCI Inc. at COP28, in January I came back to the office thinking, how do we recognize these women? How do we raise their profile so that their work is recognized and help them? Like many, I believe that for climate solutions to be unlocked business needs to be the core driver. So, this award program is about shining a spotlight on those delivering business and finance climate and sustainability solutions from around the world. From Saudi to Singapore, Lagos to Los Angeles, if you know a kickass women who is working in the space and unlocking solutions - NOMINATE HER NOW! https://lnkd.in/eHrkrJgT #unlockingsolutions #finerthawards #womeninclimate #womeninsustainablity #climate #climateawards #womeninbusiness *and too many people to tag to say thank you for helping make this happen - and a reminder to get nominating ... Earlier this week I had the opportunity to attend and moderate two panels at The Graça Machel Trust Women Creating Wealth Programme Summit powered by the Graça Machel Trust. The theme of this Summit was " Breaking Barriers, Building Wealth." I was privileged to moderate a panel titled 'Entrepreneurs for a Sustainable Future: Addressing Climate Change' which explored how entrepreneurs can lead in tackling climate change through innovations, adopting sustainable business models and circular economy practices. I was joined by remarkable women who are actively engaged in climate action and are working with their communities to provide sustainable solutions for agriculture and clean energy transitioning. It was great to hear from Sarah Ngwenya Mpumi Maesela and Sibongile Cele who shared with us the importance of looking back in our communities on what has been working and scale them up when it comes to sustainable agriculture eg. seed preservation. They also insisted on the importance of using collective models that are driven and owned by the communities and bring every one along. I was glad that we were holding this conversation at the time of COP 29 - Uniting for a Just Transition where we are still demanding for women active participation from the decision making spaces, designing and delivering solutions so that the gender gap to avoid the widening of the already existing gender gap. Everyone has a role to play. Here is a recap of the session:
