🌿 City Developments Limited is honoured to have created history with an extraordinary "Hope and Harmony" event featuring Dr. Jane Goodall and Dr. Sylvia Earle on stage for the first time in Asia! This afternoon's incredible turnout of 1,400 attendees at Orchard Hotel Singapore is a powerful testament to our shared commitment and collective will to protect and preserve our planet. Echoing the message of the Lorax by Dr. Seuss, our young storytellers remind us of the responsibility to speak for the trees and all living things. The Lorax highlights the consequences of our actions and the critical importance of environmental stewardship. Inspired by his wisdom, alongside the enduring legacies of Dr. Jane and Dr. Earle, we are called to advocate for the natural world, and recognise that every choice we make shapes the health of our ecosystems and the future of our planet. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this vital conversation. Together, we can be the change our planet needs! We are empowered, we are hopeful and no time is better to start than now. 🌍💚 **Due to time constraints, we sincerely apologise for not being able to address questions during the event as both legendary advocates had to move swiftly to fulfill back-to-back commitments. Rest assured, the questions received have been forwarded to Jane Goodall Institute (Singapore) and Ocean Geographic Society for their attention. Thank you for your kind understanding.** #HopeAndHarmony #JGIS #Oceangeographic #JaneGoodall #SylviaEarle #CDLSustainability #CDL #MissionBlue #Rootsandshoots #sustainability #TogetherForThePlanet

CDL has always believed that women can drive positive change through partnerships. CDL’s Women4Green Network is thrilled to be supporting HER Planet Earth’s film screening: “Gobi Rising – Women Leading Climate Action”, on 27 November, 2024, 6.00-8.00pm at the Singapore Sustainability Academy. HER Planet Earth is a Singapore-registered non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering women and communities at the frontlines of climate change through education, environmental conservation, and advocacy. They recently travelled to Mongolia in March 2024 with award-winning filmmaker Jacqui Hocking to support The Nature Conservancy’s work with local woman herders. Join us for the premiere of "Gobi Rising," a short documentary that highlights the incredible journey of 16 women in the Gobi Desert as they champion sustainable herding practices and lead climate action in their communities. This will be followed by a panel discussion which will explore the themes of the film, the importance of female leadership in climate action, and the broader implications for sustainable development. We are honoured to celebrate CDL’s two top awards – Impact Enterprise of the Year, and CDL CSO being crowned as Impact Leader of the Year in BT-UOB’s Sustainability Impact Awards 2024. With close to 30 years behind us in this sustainability journey, driving positive impact has been no small feat. All this would not have been possible without a strong community and value chain that believes in preserving our planet. In particular, Esther’s recognition highlights her exceptional contributions to sustainability and her pioneering efforts in promoting environmental responsibility within the corporate sector locally and globally. Find out more about how we’ve driven positive impact in The Business Times interview with our Group CEO: https://lnkd.in/g4JwHDqw, and Esther: <link> #Sustainability #Leadership #ImpactLeader2024 🍀
Positive impact, climate action and changemakers were but some of the buzzwords at the 2024 Sustainability Impact Awards last evening. Graced by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, we are honoured to be amongst the 11 corporates and individuals recognised for notable contributions towards sustainability. We clinched the Impact Enterprise of the Year award under the large enterprise category for our capacity-building and thought leadership in climate action. Located at our City Square Mall, the Singapore Sustainability Academy, which we developed in partnership with the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS), has hosted more than 1,000 advocacy events and reached out to 34,500 in-person visitors since it opened in 2017. In addition, our Chief Sustainability Officer Ms Esther An was named Impact Leader of the Year for being a pioneer in the sustainability arena. In his acceptance speech, CDL’s Group CEO Mr Sherman Kwek noted that although CDL’s sustainability journey started some 30 years ago, we faced numerous struggles and pushbacks initially when we tried to push the green agenda within our value chain. Yet, we persevered in our commitment and the award today “is not just a recognition of what CDL has pursued and achieved over the past three decades but also the impact we have made.” Find out more about how we’ve driven positive impact in The Business Times interview with our Group CEO: https://lnkd.in/g4JwHDqw Jointly presented by The Business Times and UOB, the Sustainability Impact Awards was first launched in February 2023 to recognise and celebrate outstanding individuals and companies who strive to make an impact on the environment and society, driving innovations towards a greener future. #CityDevelopments #SustainabilityImpact #BusinessExcellence #Propertysg #RealEstate #Sustainability #Environment #Singapore

In a world where sustainability integration is increasingly critical for corporate success, CDL's achievements highlight the importance of transparent and effective sustainability reporting, which we started since 2008. The integration of material ESG issues into strategic planning not only enhances stakeholder engagement but also prepares businesses for future challenges. We celebrate CDL's Distinction in Sustainability Reporting award at the Singapore Corporate Awards and encourage more companies to embrace sustainable practices that benefit both business and society!
We are humbled to be recognised for governance and stewardship excellence at the Singapore Corporate Awards 2024 last evening, with two accolades under the large cap category – Distinction in Sustainability Reporting and Best Risk Management (Bronze). Introduced for the first time this year, the Distinction in Sustainability Reporting award was in recognition of exemplary sustainability reporting. Organised by Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) and The Business Times (BT), supported by ACRA - Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority and SGX Group, the Singapore Corporate Awards was launched in September 2005 as the umbrella awards for exemplary corporate governance practices for listed companies in Singapore. Yesterday marked a significant milestone for City Developments Limited with the Singapore Sustainability Academy (SSA) Annex officially opening its doors. More than 200 of CDL’s 3P partners and friends turned up to celebrate this special occasion. Building upon the success of the original SSA launched in 2017, this expansion reinforces CDL’s commitment to tackling climate change through advancing collaborative efforts. The SSA Annex aims to: • Promote sustainable practices • Advocate for a low-carbon economy • Engage businesses and the community The window of opportunity to fight climate change and achieve net zero is closing. There is no time better than now to act. With the launch of the SSA Annex, we celebrate this important step forward in Singapore's sustainability journey and will continue working together towards a greener tomorrow! 🌍💚

2014, 2017, 2023, 2024, 1,000, 35,000.. are meaningful numbers to me. This year marks the 10th anniversary of my role as the Chief Sustainability Officer at City Developments Limited since 2014. Thanks Eugene Tay for reminding me that I had the honor to be the first #CSO in Singapore in his earlier post. 2017, when we opened Singapore Sustainability Academy, was already a year with severe climate challenges. Over 7 years, SSA with its anchor #NGO partner Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS) and other partners in the public, private and people sectors have been committed to promoting climate action and #UN #SDG, #greenbuilding and #sustainableenergy. We have never expected to achieve 1,000 events with 35,000 visitors attended talks, roundtable, events and capacity building courses at SSA. 2024 is sadly in a more challenging state. It’s likely to overtake 2023 as the hottest year on record. Most of the SDGs are behind the targets set for 2030. The Singapore sustainability community is taking action to fast-track change. The SSA Annex opening ceremony was a full house event this morning, blessed with the presence of passionate and supportive friends, partners, businesses in the 3P sectors. We are grateful to DPM Heng Swee Keat for gracing the ceremony and his strong encouragement to drive climate action, and sustainable #innovation and development. With UN Global Compact Network Singapore as anchor NGO and nearly 100 local and global civil societies, NGOs, government agencies and sustainable businesses’ support, we are hopeful that the SSA & Annex will bring more people and organisations together for greater collaborative action and impact. Grateful to the support of 6 agencies to SSA since 2017- National Environment Agency National Climate Change Secretariat, Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore (URA) Building and Construction Authority Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Singapore National Parks Board https://lnkd.in/gM462Et7 https://lnkd.in/gvQv_gBZ
