Only a week after the start of the Tour de France in Florence it was time to launch the ROOMMATE project in the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany. For this launch all partners from 4 EU countries (Italy, Swiss, Romania and the Netherlands) gathered in Florence at Fondazione Don Gnocchi. After a round of introduction and tour through the centre, there was time to prepare with each other the first activities of the project. The project acknowledges the need to focus our research on rehabilitation ecosystems as real contextualisation of technology in physical rehabilitation care is still lacking. Within ROOMMATE we address the barriers including sustainability issues, lack of accessibility, lack of appropriate infrastructure, and lack of digital skills of end users. Therefore the primary aim of ROOMMATE is to develop, implement and test a sustainable rehabilitation ecosystem, to innovate stroke rehabilitation pathways. ROOMMATE is our first project within the Transforming Health and Care Systems (#THCS) partnership, a cofund action under the Horizon Europe Programme. Within this project RRD will work mainly on the technical and organisational integration of the chosen healthcare technology. For a proper organisational integration we will together with all stakeholders, and we will develop patient journeys and service models. Both will also be the starting point for an extended societal impact assessments for two care systems (Italy and Romania). The following partners are part of the ROOMMATE consortium: * Fondazione Don Gnocchi (Florence, IT) * Medea Project (Florence, IT) * Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale from the Università degli Studi di Firenze (Florence, IT) * Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Bucharest, RO) * TU Delft (Delft, NL) * Roessingh Research and Development (Enschede, NL) * Emovo Care (Lausanne, CH) #project #kickoffmeeting #patientjourney #servicemodel #stakeholderinvolvement #societalimpact #healthcare #technology #rehabilitation #stroke

From Serendipity to Success: Our Journey as Co-founders Have you ever experienced those uncanny coincidences that hint at a grander design? Snahlata Singh and I, have had our fair share of these serendipitous moments throughout our careers. Back in 2020, we unknowingly published our research in the same volume of the Journal of Biosciences. We arrived at this serendipity just last week! But the coincidences didn’t stop there.. In 2017, I joined NCCS, the same year Snahlata left the institute. Although we missed each other by a whisker, our paths were destined to cross. We found ourselves in the same team at our previous organization, where we discovered our shared passion for precision medicine and biomarker research. Our collaboration was nothing short of magical. With each project, our synergy grew stronger, culminating in the decision to co-found BioMarkIQ. Today, we stand united in our mission to revolutionize diagnostic solutions and make a lasting impact on healthcare. These moments of serendipity have been more than just coincidences!! Those, who are interested in reading the serendipitous 45th volume of the Journal of Bioscience, read up here: Manasi: On Page 10: https://lnkd.in/diqDeHG9 Snahlata: On Page 97: https://lnkd.in/dv76fqwW #BioMarkIQ #CoFounders #PrecisionMedicine #Biomarkers #HealthcareInnovation #Serendipity

Last week, we achieved another important milestone for #TEHA's Life Sciences Community. It was a pleasure to organize and moderate the roundtable discussion "Elevating Innovation in Life Sciences: Europe’s leading TTOs in the spotlight”, held at the wonderful facilities of Humanitas Research in Milan. This event marked a significant step in our journey though innovation in #LifeSciences, showcasing the pivotal role of technology transfer processes to bring innovation from bench to bedside. Many thanks to our speakers (Robert AL, MBA RTTP, Nunzio Gennaro Cifariello, E-MBA, Irene Fialka, Anji Miller Ph.D CLP RTTP, Paola Vella, Corrado Panzeri) and to the many leaders of research and innovation that participated in the discussion (Francesca Pasinelli, Fabio Terragni, Fabrizio Conicella, Vittoria Pavoncello, Emiliano Schena and many others). Some of the key takeaways from the discussion: - what pharma and biotech companies are really looking for is not just science, but rather a solution to a specific need. To be patient-centered, technology transfer offices (TTOs) should focus on finding solutions that can meet market demands and patients’ need. - Multidisciplinary strategies and diverse expertise are essential. Italian universities and TTOs should actively seek to educate and hire individuals with mixed scientific backgrounds, embracing multidisciplinary knowledge that spans various therapeutic areas. - Despite progress such as the abolishment of the professors’ privilege, there are still many bureaucratic obstacles that continue to hinder the Italian competitiveness in the global arena of innovation. It is imperative to address these constraints, particularly at the public level, to accelerate the speed at which innovations enter the market. We are very pleased to have created this opportunity for dialogue and to have highlighted the example of Humanitas as an Italian excellence in research and innovation. #InnoTech #innovation #TechnologyTransfer
