I have always been involved in tech communities, but it wasn't until I started studying computer science in London that I realized how pervasive the issue of misogyny is in the male-dominated field of tech. Every woman in the tech community talks about this issue, but it seems like nobody outside of the tech world knows what's really going on. During my two years of studying computer science, I've heard numerous comments such as "I would never hire you in my company, women are not good at coding or business," "Women are not meant to be leaders, men are naturally better," and "You're a 'cool girl,' how come you don't listen to Andrew Tate?" I'm not even mentioning the worst ones. In such a male-dominated environment, it's incredibly difficult to stand up for yourself or other girls because doing so will immediately lead to backlash from social groups. I've heard men say, "You're just in a victim mindset. If you were serious, you wouldn't have cared and would have become successful anyway." What I'm trying to say is that misogyny is not going to stop smart and tech-savvy girls to join the field. Instead, it makes it much harder to feel satisfied and happy. However, It does discourages other girls who are considering a career in tech. It's unfair, it's not right, and it's far too normalized for it to be okay. This is why we need more girls in tech so that our voices will be heard.
