You can gain incredible insights by working in different parts of the same sector. CJSC, LLC Principal Chris Musei-Sequeira, PMP entered the aviation sector through government, where he helped establish new aviation environmental policies and tools at the Federal Aviation Administration. He then became an airport consultant, where he became a user of the policies and tools that he helped develop -- an enlightening experience! If you have the opportunity to work in different parts of your professional sector, consider taking it! #business #industry #government
Current students and young professionals often ask me if they should go right into consulting or seek hands-on experience at an agency or in a field first. I always counsel that it depends: consultants can be better at their jobs when they have first hand experience of systems and practices; agencies can benefit from fresh perspectives and honed business skill sets. For me, gaining lived experience at agencies like New York City Economic Development Corporation and The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey were invaluable to understanding how policies and budgets are made - and then how those translate into reality. The Leadership Fellows program at the PANYNJ gave me an opportunity to work in port operations in Brooklyn and Staten Island, and exposure to the realities of planning decisions on the local port economy. Expanding the Brooklyn Greenway to run in front of the port's main gates, watching the Brooklyn Bridge Park boom, witnessing the devastation of Hurricane Sandy and supporting the recovery, assessing capital needs - to live it daily is to understand it. And then there are days like the one below, during Fleet Week, hosting Op Sail, a few hours before a global pop star performs for the USO, coordinating security and prepping to open a secure facility to the public. Life-changing moment. That's the result when a new homeowner receives the keys to a Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas home. Their hard work, dedication, and perseverance have paid off in a tangible way, providing them with a safe and stable place to call their own. Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building affordable homes and promoting sustainable communities. They partner with low-income families willing to put in "sweat equity" by helping build their own homes and provide education on budgeting, home maintenance, and financial management. For many families, receiving the keys to their new Habitat home is life-changing. It's not just about having a place to live but also about gaining stability and opportunity for their future. Homeownership can lead to increased financial security, improved health and well-being, and better educational opportunities for children.
Hear our Board Chair, Lisa Hemme's perspective on Habitat and the impact our organization has here in Central Arkansas. https://lnkd.in/gKE_rvzX Thank you Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for the article and thank you, Lisa, for your continued support and leadership. #habitat #centralarkansas #affordablehousing

Because we live and work across this region, we see first-hand how our projects improve opportunities. Noteworthy projects — from the modernization of New York Penn Station in Manhattan to the restoration of the Lower Passaic River in New Jersey — show how our multidisciplinary capabilities shape our neighborhoods and build sustainable legacies for generations to come. Read more from our New York Metro Executive-in-Charge Thomas Prendergast on how we’ve supported infrastructure in New York and New Jersey for nearly a century — and how each experience builds a pathway for better futures: https://lnkd.in/ew3aSz5t #RethinkWhatsNext #RethinkingNYNJ #ConnectingCommunities #SustainableLegacies
