🏡 Why the #communityowned business model works for rural settlements. As the political parties set out their vision for addressing the nation's housing crisis, in the build up to the #GeneralElection, Plunkett UK will be making the case for embedding #combiz within new developments. We believe that this proactive approach could be transformative, not only in terms of addressing the need for more homes but also in creating communities where everyone is welcome. The pioneering approach is also something we have proudly be piloting with our partners Thakeham for a number of years, resulting the new community shop at the heart of Thakeham's Woodgate development near Pease Pottage - see 👉 [https://lnkd.in/edTpzktZ]. Working with Thakeham, we are calling for an open and constructive conversation and have prepared a white paper which sets out why we are calling for: 1️⃣ Community-owned businesses and social enterprises to be recognised in local plans, as a way of promoting inclusivity and integration alongside new development. 2️⃣ An ‘infrastructure led’ approach to development to be enshrined in the core principles of planning for new communities. 3️⃣ A more strategic approach to developing fluidity in the housing market, through the provision of a range of homes, appropriate for people at different stages of life. Day 30 of a #sharednarrative for #Plymouth: A specific shout out for Belong in Plymouth! Plymouth is one of 5 projects nationwide that are exploring how to tackle complex health inequalities. In Plymouth we are developing a network called Belong in Plymouth; connecting individuals who aspire to make Plymouth a city where no one feels forgotten. The sheer scale and complexity of isolation and its effects on health mean we know we need to explore and search for answers together - NHS, Statutory Services, the VCSE and individual citizens. This includes deepening our understanding of the system and context together through listening and conversations with communities where they are heard as respected peers. So far we have spent £345,000 and with this we have: Collected 120 conversations resulting in 790+ fragments, 53 factors, 12 themes, 1 map: https://buff.ly/47WjD3x We have 13 young people leading their own work and 22 local residents participating in co-creation processes. Engaged with 399 participants through wider events (e.g. Neighbourhood democracy, Hope in the Heart, Health is Wealth), 198 through sensemaking workshops, 105 through conversation processing workshops. We have trained 118 people trained (including 13 young people) And we have seen 264 members join the network, 391 people receive the newsletter Watch the video here: https://buff.ly/3YjqO2R Full Plymouth Octopus(POP) narrative: https://buff.ly/4dQZbD1 POP learning and thinking: https://buff.ly/4fZAcPG Dark Matter Labs @Annette https://buff.ly/3YSF4Ac Sky Space Team Development Cic @Jen https://buff.ly/3yMsPK #BEMOREPLYMOUTH #fairer #greener #futurism #regenerativefutures #learning #sharednarrative #plymouth #systemconvening #community #grassroots #funding #grantmaking

Lauren Newby, Director at GC Insight, wrote an article with Matt Baker of Reimagine Place for the Institute of Place Management to encourage fresh thinking by the new government to realise the potential of regeneration through long term investment by community-led partnerships. A few excerpts are below and you can find the entire article here: ➡️ https://ow.ly/PIi150TcIob "When it was announced last year that more than £1billion would be invested into 55 towns through a £20 million endowment-style fund to develop decade long plans, it was heralded as a new idea that would create a different style of politics. " "As placemaking practitioners working on one of the first wave of towns to be selected in the former mill town of Nelson in Lancashire, we have seen first-hand the pros and cons of this approach." "Firstly, there is a lot of enthusiasm in local communities for Long Term Plans for Towns (LTPT) and a desire for their voices to be heard in shaping the plans." "Our first round of engagement indicated considerable scepticism about LTPTs, but in the second phase of consultation, the scepticism softened as they could see how their feedback had shaped the plan and we saw a much more positive response. Once people see their views reflected and feel heard in plans they feel more invested in them." "The main challenge we faced, though, was balancing the competing needs of formulating a long-term aspirational vision with deep seated frustration at current problems. In discussions in working men’s clubs, community halls and libraries, people argued passionately that fixing potholes, tackling litter and restoring law and order should be the plan’s main priority." "While there were plenty who wanted to push more imaginative interventions - from water features to smarter transport and events programmes, they were in the minority. The dominant community voices were those who wanted the basics tackled first." "To unleash brave, experimental and imaginative thinking, we need to create a viable future for all our towns. This will only happen when communities have assurance that the basic public services they all rely on are properly funded on a long term basis." "So while it’s still early days for the LTPT’s we would encourage the new Government to stick with them, improve it where necessary and encourage other towns to develop plans." #regeneration #community #investment

Proud of Emily Koller, AICP and her planning team, City Council, P&Z, and committee members involved for achieving this award through TxAPA which highlights all the great work they are doing for the City of Amarillo citizens. Way to go! COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING AWARD City of Amarillo | Vision 2045 For a comprehensive or general plan that advances the science and art of planning. City Plan – Vision 2045 innovates comprehensive planning for more conservative communities, advancing meaningful planning work while acknowledging Amarillo's hesitancy for land use regulation. Experiencing typical suburban growth along affluent edges as the older core declined, planning has not been viewed as a solution to community challenges arising from these growth patterns. An inclusive process was required to recast planning as a roadmap for positive change and actively address concerns over the plan's potential impact on property owner rights. Ultimately, it evolved into a community-supported guide that strongly emphasizes a voluntary approach to improving Amarillo.

Impact in Focus: In honor of CPC’s 50th year, and in celebration of completing renovations to 16 Manhattan NYCHA developments, we’re shining the spotlight on the PACT Renaissance Collaborative. In 2019, New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), the nation's largest housing authority, chose the PACT Renaissance Collaborative (PRC) to renovate and revitalize 1,700 apartments across 16 Manhattan developments that are home to nearly 3,000 residents. PRC is comprised of CPC, Monadnock Development, The Community Development Trust, Community League of the Heights (CLOTH), Kalel Companies, and Lemor Development Group. Our participation in NYCHA’s innovative PACT-RAD program further cemented CPC as a trusted organization committed to enhancing the living conditions of NYC residents. We’re delighted to have successfully transformed these buildings into the #affordable, #safe, and #equitable homes their tenants deserve. This work has a meaningful effect on the lives of New Yorkers, and we can’t wait to see how much more impact we can make in the next 50 years. Please follow along all year long as we celebrate our 50th anniversary by highlighting the projects, people, and communities that have made CPC what it is today. #CPC50th #50YearsofImpact #50YearsofInnovation
