Thank you to the NABJ for live streaming their interview with Vice President Harris. While we are disappointed that education has received little no air time in the 2024 election campaign, we are thrilled to hear the recommendation that more counselors be funded in schools to enhance mental health supports. https://lnkd.in/gg83WHnt

This has been such an interesting and provocative listen. Interesting parallels and differences with the approach to violence in Norway. Having some experience of Serious Youth Violence, l have witnessed and experienced the ripple affect this can have on families, young people's peers, wider communities and those of us who serve young people. Regular and robust Supervision enabled me to process some of that. Violence has a very loud voice and is a way of seeking connection, albeit a negative one. We need to listen. Youth Workers are well placed to engage with this. Things that resonated with me: Incarceration of children rarely helps. Especially within our system. Youth Justice and Health need to work together better. I would add Social Care to that, and l know this is being addressed in some Local Authorities with Place Based Partnerships. Poverty and Childhood trauma have direct links to violence, but not always. The threat of violence is perpetuated by a divisive and fear mongering media. Young people's perception is much worse than the reality. Absent Fathers mentioned a lot. So many wonderful women bringing up children on their own. Toxic masculinity. Is this a helpful term? "Interventions" (hate that military term) need to be earlier and kinder (my word). There is so much more to reflect upon. Having worked in an Adolescent Safeguarding Service, l have acquired some knowledge and experience. Want to learn so much more and with young people to see how we can address this. Always remaining hopeful.

Some of you might be interested in this. Lynne and I are speaking on Sunday at 2.30, on how to counter racism and right-wing popularism by listening and engaging, rather than dismissing and blocking. The content of our presentation: Through the concepts of attachment, loss and disenfranchisement, Lynne and John explore what it’s like to be fearful and disempowered. We will discuss how this can lead to radicalisation, and how popularist politicians might exploit fear for their own ends. Through the medium of photographic images and brief narratives, we show how, by listening and engaging with others, including those whose views we oppose, we can begin to create more compassionate, loving, harmonious interactions and hold hope for national and global ‘precarious equilibrium. https://lnkd.in/gMbWfymt..

Our leaders know our children are being abuse by the health system - but don't care I have been in contact with our leaders (National, Act and NZ First) for months about the abuse by our health system on gender confused children. So I just send them my last offer for them to do the right thing. Gentleman, I sent you evidence that our gender dysphoric children are being abused by our health system months ago. And given the number of children on puberty blockers has gone from 137 in 2010 to 740 last year there is a obvious problem. This problem is with gender dysphoric girls, who were not a thing prior to 2000, are now over half of those on them. Why? I have asked the MoH and HealthNZ and they don't know and don't care. Its called a gender dysphoria contagion, that have impacted all western countries. But you already know this. Do you also know corporations are the ones funding this movement. See - https://lnkd.in/gruUBqhR Just a heads up now that you have been made aware of this abuse I'm going to start talking about the fact that our politicians, you lot, don't care that the world is moving away from this nonsense since the CASS review and leaks about WPATH. Its abuse and WE ALL now know it. And I see you have stacked the deck by appointing PATHA (trans activists) and Dame Sue Bradford (been pushing transition onto children for years) to the review of puberty blockers. So you want to continue to do it while the rest of the world stops it. And under your watch the number of children being abuse is really ramped up. I see you have secured more money via the 'womens health strategy' to remove the healthy breasts of even more girls. Ironic given your removing the womanhood from girls using money for womens health. Oh course you could do the right thing or ask to talk to me about this abuse. But given you have know about it for months and done nothing I'm not holding my breath. So your now part of the problem for continuing to allow this abuse to happen.

OPINION: "Dear John" Letters Don't Cut It Anymore "The problem runs deeper than mere communication strategies; it's symptomatic of a broader disconnect between municipal issues and public engagement. While municipal leaders earnestly tackle community concerns, the populace seems increasingly disinterested, caught up in partisan squabbles rather than substantive dialogue. For too long, municipalities have relied on outdated methods to amplify their voices. Open letters may have served a purpose in the past, but in 2024, they're an insufficient means of effecting change. It's time for municipal leaders to assume a more proactive role, to be the grown-ups in the room, and invite federal and provincial counterparts to the table." https://lnkd.in/gPyG_KBt #Municipal #Opinion #DearJohn
