With Thanksgiving around the corner, we’re reflecting on the heartwarming support we receive from people like you, who enable us to reach child care providers, families, and children in every corner of our state. Your contributions bring guidance to educators, resources to families, and the hope of a more inclusive future for every child. We couldn’t do this without you; every smile, thank you, and success story we hear is a testament to your kindness. From all of us at CICC, thank you for helping us make a real difference. 🧡 #inclusionmatters #earlychildhoodeducation #teachersupport #supportingouryouth

A pitch to pitch in this #NationalFosterCareMonth! Children that happen to have contact with the foster care system are a) #children and b) children equally deserving of care and support in a #family unit. Some need temporary support, others need more, but each of them in their own way contribute to the champions that partner with them. And there is something everyone can do to pitch in to the solution. In the abundance of our existence, it is a travesty that the brilliance of some children is dimmed through no fault of their own. Worst, the internalization of this neglect sometimes leads to cerebral and mental health degeneration that compounds over time. Ways to help one or more foster care children - 1. There are about 3.5 million households in LA County. About 30,000 children, plus or minus, in foster care, a fraction of them in search of adoption. Of the 3.5 million households, if you are a household that can provide a loving environment, consider learning more about adoption with an organization like Hillsides. 2. Adopting isn't the only way to help. Consider learning more about being a resource family for a foster care child that needs a temporary accommodation. 3. You can help in other ways, too. You can be part of all those success stories you see and hear about in the news! Can your work team or school sponsor a drive to gather new toiletries or coats or duffel bags that will go to an organization supporting foster care youth? Can your family or friend group commit to gathering $100 worth of pre-teen or teen related fun items (like board games, journals, gift cards) to offer a sense of normalcy during the holidays? Can you donate your hard-earned money to an organization like Hillsides toward the eventual success story of one of these children? Giving is one of the most fulfilling acts. However it is you have thought about pitching in, if you haven't or haven't in a while - I encourage you to get involved today! Learn more at hillsides.org/get-involved

Ever notice how public funding for child care is only available during extreme circumstances and for certain families? It’s time to change that mindset. Our latest blog dives into that issue, highlighting the need for public funding for child care that supports all families, not just a select few. We need to let go of outdated mindsets that put conditions on who should be able to access what type of child care and under what circumstances. Instead we need to shift towards viewing child care as not just a reactive intervention, but a proactive investment in each child and community. Check out our blog to learn four ways to shift our advocacy messages to get closer to what families want in a reimagined child care system. https://lnkd.in/evgipnrQ

If you are a parent needing accessible and affordable child care, an employer needing employees, or a child care professional needing to earn what you are worth "Become an Advocate!" See Child Care Aware's post to learn more about the way to do it.
Today marks the end of critical funding made available specifically for child care under the American Rescue Plan Act. That means we may see changes to states’ subsidy programs that limits family access to child care, including returning to pre-pandemic eligibility and family copayment policies, as well as maintaining a waitlist for new applicants. Your voice matters. Stay up to date with the latest information and resources by becoming an advocate with Child Care Aware of America. https://hubs.li/Q02RxktV0

💙 It's Kinship Caregiver Month, a time to honor those stepping in to care for children when they need it most! This year, the Annie E. Casey Foundation highlighted that over 50% of children in Arizona’s foster care system are in kinship placements, making AZ a top state for kinship care. Let's give our thanks to these caregivers and continue to push for policies that support their success. Key actions include reducing barriers to licensing, providing equitable financial support, and recognizing the needs of unlicensed caregivers.
