🌟 I am thrilled to share that my son has officially had his patent issued! 🎉✨ This milestone marks not only a significant achievement for him but also underscores the importance of protecting intellectual property in today’s innovation-driven world. Securing a patent is more than just a legal formality; it’s a critical step in safeguarding the creativity and hard work that goes into developing new ideas and technologies. For young inventors especially, it provides a foundation for future growth, collaboration, and success. This is a reminder to all the young innovators out there: keep dreaming big, stay curious, and remember that your ideas have the power to change the world. And to those who support them—whether as mentors, educators, or family members—your encouragement and belief in their potential make all the difference. The process has been a tremendous learning experience for him and we could not have done it without the help of Peter Hagerty and Tina Dorr. I can’t wait to see where he will take this. Ever wonder how tech giants strike game-changing deals? Thrilled to share an exciting learning experience from my Master's program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Professor Michael Roach’s tech strategy class took a deep dive into the world of tech negotiations and strategic partnerships. Our class became Golden Years and Bionym, facing off in an intense negotiation simulation to forge a licensing deal or explore an open-ended collaboration involving Bionym's revolutionary HeartID technology (user authentication based on your heartbeat!). This wasn't just about the final deal. It was about understanding the intricacies of negotiation, with factors like royalties, upfront costs, and manufacturing processes all playing a role. We saw firsthand how even small tweaks in royalties could significantly impact profitability, highlighting the importance of strategic decision-making during negotiations. The simulation was an incredible opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, giving us a real sense of what it takes to bring innovative technologies like HeartID to market. Huge shoutout to Professor Michael Roach for his insightful presentation and to my awesome classmates for making this experience both challenging and fun.
