CeNTI participates in a new European project focused on circular bioenergy systems. Called COSEC - "Biogenic CO2 capture into Sustainable Energy Carriers", this new research initiative is centered on environmental sustainability, aiming to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the mitigation of climate change. The Project is based on capture and conversion of CO2 during algae cultivation for the subsequent production of energy-rich biomass (circular bioenergy system). CeNTI, in particular, will be involved in the evaluation and utilisation of the biomass for the production of Hydrogen, a renewable and environmentally friendly energy source. COSEC's kick-off meeting was recently held at the University of the Algarve (Portugal) and gathered the consortium’s entities. The Project is funded by the European Commission through the HORIZON Research and Innovation Actions Programme. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eumbvMbE. We're excited to share a groundbreaking development in renewable fuels! Researchers from RWTH Aachen University, the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion, and ETH Zürich, including Walter Leitner and André Bardow, have developed HyFiT, a new synthetic fuel. 🚀🔋 HyFiT fuels can be used directly in today's engines, significantly reducing particulate matter and nitrogen oxides emissions. Produced from renewable resources like green electricity, water, biomass, and CO₂, these fuels close the carbon cycle and utilize existing industrial infrastructure. Our study shows HyFiT fuels have a superior environmental profile, outperforming even battery-based technologies, especially over long distances. This innovation marks a significant step toward sustainable, carbon-neutral transportation. We were very pleased to join Remco de Boer on Studio Energie to explore the future of renewable gas with EBA CEO Harmen Dekker. The conversation unpacked the potential of biomethane and how it can transform Europe's energy landscape. 🎧 In this episode, you will discover: 🍃 A circular climate solution: The impact of biogases goes far beyond energy production, as they provide solutions to significant societal challenges. They support grid stability, provide affordable and sustainable energy, organic fertilisers and offer effective waste management solutions. 💡 A strong European industrial base: The offsetting of fossil energy with biogases stimulates leadership in clean technologies and the creation of green jobs, boosting the development of a European bioeconomy. 💶 Economic advantages: Biomethane is the most scalable and affordable renewable gas available today. Every euro invested in biogases will provide a 50% return that will stay within the European bioeconomy. 📈 Growth potential: Today, biogases provide 22 bcm of renewable gas to Europe. By 2040, this could reach 101 bcm, meeting over 80% of the EU's gas demand. “The industry needs molecules. As industry needs to decarbonise but needs to stay competitive at the same time, biomethane is seen as a short- and long-term solution.”, said Harmen Dekker. 📌 Harmen Dekker also called for bold actions to accelerate the sector’s growth: 1) Recognising the multiple economic and environmental benefits of biogases for the EU economy. 2) Setting ambitious EU and national targets to ensure rapid uptake. 3) Implementing fast-track permitting in designated renewable acceleration areas across Europe. 4) Harmonising cross-border trading to establish a true EU-wide market. 🎙️ Catch the full conversation now! https://lnkd.in/d58HPN_J #biogas #biomethane #sustainable #renewableenergy

🌱 Innovative membrane processes for the reduction of fossil fuels in bioethanol production As part of the #MemFermOL project, we are working with our partners to significantly reduce energy consumption in the production of bioethanol. The conventional bioethanol production process is very energy-intensive, as it is based on thermally driven distillation processes that currently mainly use fossil fuels such as natural gas. 📌 The aim of the project is to replace these energy-intensive distillation steps with innovative membrane processes. This technology makes it possible to save up to 80 % of the energy required and thus drastically improve the energy balance of bioethanol production. At a time when the reduction of CO2 emissions and independence from fossil fuels are more important than ever, the MemFermOL project is making a decisive contribution to a sustainable energy future. Together, we are working to make the production of biofuels more efficient and environmentally friendly. To achieve our goals, we have joined forces with Nordbrand GmbH and Fraunhofer IKTS in the MemFermOL project, using their specialist knowledge and expertise to establish a membrane-based, energy-saving process chain for the production of technical bioethanol from renewable raw materials. 🤝 The project, which was funded by the State of Thuringia, was co-financed by the European Union as part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). #Sustainability #Bioethanol #Energytransition #Innovation #Membrane technology #CO2reduction #MemFermOL
