Brazil relied on renewable energy sources for 93.1% of its electricity in 2023, with solar energy accounting for 16.5% of the total, or 37.2 GW, behind hydropower. Of that, 30% came from centralized solar energy and 70% from decentralized solar energy. With an anticipated increase of 5.98 GW, distributed solar installations are predicted to stay at the forefront of the industry in 2024, according to the Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Association (ABSOLAR). It is projected that 3.4 GW more will come from centralized installations, bringing the total new installed capacity to 9.38 GW—a little less than the 10.8 GW added in 2023. Considerable prospects for starting new enterprises, attracting investments, creating jobs, and modernizing Brazil's energy mix are presented by this expansion. But it also carries with it a number of regulatory, socioeconomic, and technical difficulties. #solarpower #cleanenergy #PV #solar #solarproject #solarmount #technology #solarenergy #renewableenergy #greenenergy

Cabinet approves $850M Abydos Renewable Energy Company project in Aswan The Cabinet has granted approval for Abydos Renewable Energy Company to secure the Golden License for its ambitious solar energy project in New Benban, Aswan Governorate. The project, designed to generate and sell electricity from photovoltaic energy, will boast a capacity of 1,000 MW and include energy storage systems with a capacity of 600 MW/hour. With an investment of $850 million, the project will cover 20 km² of land allocated by the New and Renewable Energy Authority and is expected to generate approximately 4,000 jobs. Commercial operations for the first phase, with a capacity of 300 MW and energy storage of 300 MW, are set to begin in August 2025. The second phase, offering an additional 700 MW of capacity and 300 MW of energy storage, is scheduled for April 2026. #egypt #renewable #energy Read more: https://lnkd.in/dT_73XdW

Arevia Power and NV Energy have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the Libra Solar project, a major solar-plus-storage initiative in Nevada. The project will feature 700MWac of solar PV and a 700MW/2,800MWh battery energy storage system. Set to be operational by the end of 2027, it will be the largest such project in Nevada and one of the largest in the US. Located near the Fort Churchill substation in Yerington, the project will cover 5,141 acres in Mineral County, with most of the transmission line in Lyon County. It will create over 1,000 jobs and significantly contribute to economic growth in Mineral County. NV Energy's Integrated Resource Plan, which includes the Libra project and two other solar-plus-storage PPAs totaling over 1GW, aims to meet Nevada's renewable energy targets and manage customer costs and peak demand. The PPA is a key step in Nevada's growing energy storage market, bolstered by similar large-scale projects in the region, including Arevia's previous 690MW Gemini project and a 440MWh standalone battery storage system by Energy Vault. The interconnected Western Interconnection grid allows Nevada projects to also support the larger California energy market. https://lnkd.in/eWvt88h6 #EnergyStorage #Nevada #OdinGlobal

Equipping 546 government buildings with solar panels is a great step in advancing renewable energy in #Iraq. These hopefully serve as lighthouse projects and trigger much more dearly needed investments in #renewables. Germany is engaging with the University of Mosul to install solar energy. This will enable the university to satisfy its entire energy demands through solar power. Hopefully this will also serve as a lighthouse project for the region to move towards renewable energy. Works are projected to start next year. #solarenergy #renewables #renewableenergy #sustainableenergyforall

Croatia allocates 413.5 MW of PV in reneweables auction The Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE) has announced the final results of the renewable energy auction it launched in April. The procurement exercise was the second round of auctions since Croatia introduced market premiums to support renewable energy projects in mid-2020. In this exercise, PV capacity accounts for 413.5 MW, with the final average price for the PV technology caming in at €0.056 ($0.065)/kWh. In 2022, Croatia held its first auction for large-scale projects to acquire 638 MW of additional capacity. Nevertheless, just 107 MW of projects received premiums, indicating the lack of enthusiasm for them. A 300 MW solar plant quota was provided by the regulator; however, only four proposals, totaling 8 MW in capacity, were approved. #solarpower #cleanenergy #PV #solar #solarproject #solarmount #technology #solarenergy #renewableenergy #greenenergy

Some developments are underway in Moldova's energy sector. The government has just initiated a new tender for 2024-2025 aimed at supporting local renewable energy projects. This initiative, featuring a fixed-rate (feed-in tariff) support mechanism, marks a significant stride towards fostering renewable energy adoption in the region. Under this scheme, Moldova's government is offering three ways of support to green energy producers: - Net Invoicing: Tailored for small-scale producers with installations designed for personal consumption. - Fixed Rates for 15 years: Applicable to parks and plants generating up to 1 MW photovoltaic or 4 MW wind energy, providing stability and support over a decade and a half. - Fixed Pricing for 15 Years via auctions: Reserved for larger parks and plants exceeding 1 MW photovoltaic or 4 MW wind capacities, allocated through competitive auctions. For deeper insights into Moldova's renewable energy trends, you can have a look at the report prepared by our team below:
