The latest ATO Findings Report for 2024 has sparked discussions about the evolving nature of tax reviews. The data from the report showcases the ATO's new differentiated approach to the Top 1,000 Combined Assurance Review (CAR) program, although it doesn't yet include detailed commentary on this shift. However, the trend towards a 'lighter touch' review for medium and high assurance taxpayers is already evident. For businesses aiming to benefit from this new approach, the focus should be on implementing the ATO's recommendations from prior reviews and addressing any tax governance issues. This is particularly important for those with low assurance ratings, as improving these can lead to more streamlined future engagements with the ATO. If you're curious about how these findings might affect your tax strategy, feel free to reach out and let's discuss the implications for your business.
