♻️Empowering European clusters with new skills is pivotal for scaling up the green transition. Urgent: an Italian University is looking for startups and SMEs for the ERDF call I3-2024-INV1 💡A European consortium, led by an Italian university in Milan, is preparing a project proposal for the ERDF call I3-2024-INV1, a funding opportunity under the European Regional Development fund for interregional innovation projects ⭐⭐.  Part of the project is ECOFFIS, who aims to enhance the sustainability performance of existing office buildings 🏢🏢. The main idea is to develop a digital interregional platform that evaluates and improves the ecological footprint of the buildings 👣. The platform evaluates the buildings by multiple aspects of sustainability, including energy consumption, water usage, water management, etc. 🍃🍃 👉The focus areas of this project are Waste Management, Food and Drink consumption and the development of a Circular Economy. 🤝 Through interregional cooperation the project could strengthen the sustainable innovation capacity on the European level. 📉 Luxembourg has slipped to 8th place in the EU’s 2024 Innovation Scoreboard. The Grand Duchy leads in "attractive research systems," is second in human resources, and third in environmental sustainability. However, it is the only EU member state whose average score has declined since the scoreboard's inception in 2017.

🔥 What an incredible journey with the UniGreen National Competition! Over 6 months, we reached 200k+ on social media and received 430 applications. We meticulously selected and mentored 10 outstanding finalists, leading to five innovative startups winning the top spots. 🌟 During the closing ceremony, I had the honor of moderating the "Green Horizons: Pioneering Sustainable Futures" panel discussion. 🎤✨ Featuring Asmaa Ahmed, FMP, Deputy Director of IECC at Nile University, and Hanya Riad Assistant lecturer & Coordinator for international projects at Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, we delved into: 🔹 Innovation & Entrepreneurship: Asmaa Ahmed highlighted the role of startups in tackling climate challenges like carbon emissions and water scarcity through innovation and entrepreneurship. 🔹 Collaboration: Dr. Hanya Riad emphasized the importance of collaboration among governments, universities, and the private sector for a comprehensive approach to climate action. 🔹 Consumer Awareness: Discussing the role of public awareness campaigns, we stressed making sustainability a personal matter and supporting exporters to meet international standards. 🔹 Green Tech Trends: We explored the latest in smart cities, green buildings, renewable energy, and more, stressing the need for sustainable lifecycle assessments. The panel concluded that the future of sustainability lies in the hands of young innovators and collaborative stakeholders. 🌍💡 I also had the privilege of meeting influential figures in the ecosystem in-person, including Ahmed Moussa, Mohsen Sarhan, Noha Shaker, Amr Hashem & Aliaa Ahmed IMPH,BCNSP, ECSRT, it was a pleasure meeting you all. At the recent EIT Summit in Brussels, we sat down with the organisation's Director, Martin Kern, to discuss what's cooking over at the EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology. Kern, who's been part of the EIT leadership for almost a decade after a long career stint at the European Commission, told us more about the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities (the so-called KICs), which are essentially Europe-wide networks centered around addressing a specific societal challenge, from sustainable energy to climate change, healthy food and green transport. Keen observers will have noted that this is not dissimilar to our approach in defining 10 market sector opportunities in the deep tech space. In the 14 years since it was started, the EIT has supported and helped grow more than 8,000 startups, and built up an innovation network with more than 2,400 partners from top business, research and education organisations across Europe. Kern discusses the work the EIT is doing in more detail.
