Want to shift power? Start with awareness! We love this Power Awareness Tool from Partos and The Spindle, Partos' Innovation Platform, and the Shift the Power Lab facilitated by Anne-Marie Heemskerk and Heinz Greijn. We like how succinct the document is and the overview of why understanding power imbalances matter and how it functions between INGOs and local NGOs. The tool is also available as an Excel (link in comments). If you want to shift power, start here. 👇🏾

It was a pleasure getting to speak DigiAssets Conference! Sharing some of my prep notes on which customer segments are driving the demand for ETP/ETF products and how the products can be improved for future iterations: Bitcoin ETFs continue to gain traction in US (over $30b inflows since Jan!) and ETPs continue to be a popular vehicle in EU/Switzerland. 1Q2024 13-F filings (>$100m US investment advisors file their public holdings quarterly, 45 days after end of the quarter) are coming due this week which provide valuable insights into who is buying these crypto ETPs. It's probably 75% retail, 25% institutions (after subtracting out market makers and those putting on the basis trade). The market cap for ETPs is currently about 1-2% of US and European stock markets, mirroring crypto's market cap relative to global capital markets. When institutions come in long, I expect to see the market cap % to capital markets to rise. Noteworthy filings include Hightower with $68 million in ETF ownership, and regional investment advisors like Legacy Wealth Management and United Capital Management of Kansas reporting BTC ETF holdings of ~5% of portfolio value. It may be that they're including these products in customer convos. European banks, including BNP Paribas and UBS, are beginning to report ownership of Bitcoin ETFs. Less significant than RIAs because they're probably holding them on behalf of funds / end customers self-directed, but still noteworthy. We'll know there is true long institutional buying when discretionary asset managers (pensions, endowments) and large wealth managers (target date funds and managed accounts) start buying ETP/ETF. Future Improvements: Diversified Products: Institutions will seek beyond BTC ETFs to products offering staking rewards and diversified baskets. Rewards Generation: Staking should be a feature of all ETP products if there is a proof-of-stake component to the underlying, full stop. Enhanced Benchmarks: Total return index benchmarks that include all forms of staking rewards, including MEV. Eyes on the UK: UK is next to go live with ETFs in June, and will be institutional only. Not expecting a huge wave of capital to come in off the get go, but potentially larger volumes if UK retail buying is approved later this year (rumored).
Thank you to the event organizers at the DigiAssets Conference, for an insightful two days in London. Figment’s Institutional Business Development Lead, Josh Deems, took the stage on the ETP Deep-Dive Panel. If you’re still in London, join the Figment team tomorrow at the Markets Group 8th Annual Private Wealth UK Spring Forum.

It’s undeniable: everything is political. That’s why thinking and working politically (TWP) is key to achieving lasting development impact. By being responsive to changes in the local context, remaining adaptable, and using data and analysis in a politically-aware way, we can achieve enduring results. But what does this look like in practice? USAID’s TWP case competition highlighted examples from across sectors. I’m proud that my Chemonics International colleagues working in Colombia, Peru, and Mexico were all recognized in a highly competitive field of submissions. Save the date ! Tomorrow at GREDEG (2:00 PM, in Room Turgot), Anthony Howell will present you a series of recent papers on the role of agglomeration on the process of firm innovation and the impact of state-led efforts to organize the spatial economy to promote technological related spillovers in China. In general, local spillovers contribute to patenting activity, new innovation sales, and productivity among Chinese firms, particularly in the context of rapid economic reforms. The effects vary depending on privately owned versus state-owned enterprises, highlighting the importance of firm ownership structure in leveraging external knowledge. The influence of place-based policies like industrial parks and zones on agglomeration and selection forces will be discussed, offering insights for policymakers in transitioning economies aiming to foster innovation and productivity through strategic spatial planning.

Meet our newest member of the evaluation committee: André Tozello! "The DNA of curiosity, innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship drives me to learn and apprehend the knowledge of this ecosystem that innovation and technology has provided and provides us with. Whenever possible and within my limitations, I try to give back with all that I have learned and apprehended in this life. Don't ask me to talk about soccer, but about my real passions: education, health, environment, startups and their ecosystems, communities, technology, innovation, disruption, facilities related to the disinfection of environments through non-ionizing radiation, gastronomy, cinema, and music! Together with M2D1 I develop a solution that inactivates germs in the air and on surfaces, in real time, in the presence of people, efficiently, effectively, and without health risks or environmental impact. Every day, I continue to grow and improve myself professionally and personally, in order to collaborate with society and the world we live in."

Good read[s] for anyone prioritizing growth in 2024. Key takeaways: ✅It doesn't matter what you are CALLING it [multicultural marketing, inclusive marketing, DEIB, diversity comms] what matters is that you are DOING it. Unless you still believe that you can achieve 100% of your growth by focusing on only 50% of the population. ✅Some say that this work is more "complex". But isn't that what we all said when we had to get smart about "digital"? We all became experts. Now look at AI - everyone's diving in. This work is not complex with the right expertise, and there has never been a time in marketing history where we have had more data and support available for those who want to be best in class or even to just get started. Inaction = stagnation. ANA AIMM is driving marketers and the industry forward. #growthimperative #getstarted #diverseaudiences
Over the past few weeks we have been fortunate to have AIMM's work shared through a multitude of avenues, including articles spotlighting AIMM's mission, our ongoing initiatives, and op-ed pieces from our leaders, Lisette Arsuaga, Gilbert Dávila Davila and Carlos Santiago, that provide clear, research-based insights into some of the most pressing topics within the MC&I Marketing space. Our work so far doesn't only reflect the breadth of our endeavors but also offers valuable insights into the evolving landscape of multicultural marketing. Learn more about our Diverse Media GrowthFronts, our insights on media investment, why "woke" marketing works, key ways to continue the prioritization of DEIB amidst the challenges and so much more on our website's news section: www.anaaimm.net/news
