The Londoners we support have often gone through several traumas - not just #homelessness, but experiences of abuse, neglect, or violence. When trauma goes untreated, it can lead to deeper issues like substance abuse, mental health challenges, and difficulties with life skills such as sustaining housing or holding down a job - all factors contributing to homelessness. We recognise the impact of trauma on our clients, ensuring our services' are trauma-informed, prioritising healing, stability and recovery. That includes running therapy and mental health support within our services. Homelessness is an experience, not a forever. With the right support, it can be ended. #MHAW2024 #MHAW24 #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #HomelessnessAwareness #TraumaInformedCare #Therapy

Did you know...❓ 🧠 According to Crisis, 45% of individuals experiencing homelessness have received a diagnosis of a mental health issue. This figure rises to 8 out of 10 people who are sleeping rough. 🏡 We see the effect of poor mental health firsthand when supporting those who come to us for help through our projects such as Calderwood House. We hope that in sharing this statistic, we can help break the stigma and prejudice surrounding homelessness. 💚 Rachel Holliday Louise M. 🌱 💚 As we reflect on Mental Health Awareness Month, we understand there is a profound connection between mental health and homelessness. Mental health challenges are both a cause and consequence of homelessness, creating a cycle that can be hard to break without the right support. At HOME, we understand securing a roof is just the first step. Our clients at times also need comprehensive mental health support to rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience. This month, we pledge to advocate for policies that address these interconnected issues 🧠 🏠 Join us in spreading awareness, and checking in on your friends and family. Together, we can work towards solutions that not only find homes for those in need, but also provide them with the support essential for true healing and independence 💖 #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #EndHomelessness #SupportSystem

Homelessness leads to complex trauma, deeply impacting mental health. CDC data shows that high school students experiencing homelessness are three times more likely to attempt suicide than their stably housed peers. Despite this, they face barriers like high mobility and lack of transportation to access mental health services. Schools often serve as their only mental health resource, making it crucial to prioritize support for these vulnerable children.
