Greener Events, Better World 🌍 | Sustainability Advocate

🌱 I gained valuable insights at the Sustainability Business Forum this week, which was hosted by Franco-Thai Chamber of Commerce (FTCC), SwissThai Chamber of Commerce (STCC), Netherlands-Thai Chamber of Commerce (NTCC) Thai-Swedish Chamber of Commerce. Despite my limited knowledge of Thailand’s sustainability market, I left with many insights! 🇹🇭 Key takeaways include recognizing that every country has no one-size-fits-all solution. Thailand presents unique challenges in integrating a holistic approach to policy, government, corporate, and including the younger generation to make a high impact. 🌊 Climate Impact: Thailand and Southeast Asia are already dealing with extreme temperatures and coastal flooding risks due to rising sea levels. Climate adaptation to manage precious resources such as reliable water sources is crucial. 💰 Stakeholder Engagement: Financial impact heavily influences stakeholders, so messages emphasizing ESG as a revenue generator/license to earn, longer-term savings, and addressing inefficiencies are important. Suppliers have various capabilities, and support is needed to ensure no one is left behind. 🏛️ Policy & Governance: Concerns over slow progress, complicated licensing process, insufficient regulation enforcement, and transparency issues remain in reporting and disclosures. TH needs more investment than its regional counterparts. ☀️ Decarbonization Roadmap: The clean energy transition needs to be accelerated! Thailand currently generates 12% of its energy from renewable sources. Solar energy is gaining traction as the cheapest source globally, and EV adoption is rising (65% of new purchases). However, convincing stakeholders to make the transition, grid integration, and infrastructure investment are challenges. 📚 Education & Awareness: There is investment and commitment, but the goals are shifting backward and require a mindset change. 🔧 Workforce Upskilling is essential for filling future jobs such as technicians, EV mechanics, AI, machine learning, etc. From a planning perspective, it was nice to see an event powered by renewable energy sources, with business cards replacing printed badges and no single-use plastic. Even better, the farmer himself served raw bamboo straws and organic coconuts, which would later be converted to fertilizer. I’m inspired by the insights gained and look forward to learning more about the context in other markets. #sustainability #globalgoals #roadtonetzero #climateaction #ESG #decarbonization #eventprof
