This week, we were in Cardiff to build on our report with University of Warwick - Warwick Business School, Creating the Golden Thread, which sets out what a UK-wide ambition for major events could look like. We were particularly interested in where UK-wide approaches would best complement and support the Welsh Event Strategy up to 2030. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 It was great to hear from Adrian Lambert at the Hay Festival about the impact of the festival on the local economy and the place itself. Event Wales told us about the strategic approach to events taken by the Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government and the connection to Wales’ wellbeing goals. We learned while things are still in recovery from the pandemic and costs of living crisis there is much coming together and collaboration happening across the sector. The Cardiff roundtable is part of a series of roundtable Spirit of 2012 and Warwick Business School are convening to discuss how Creating the Golden Thread’s recommendations could be operationalised at different levels of government for: 1⃣: Aligning and directing policymaking and investment; 2️⃣: Effective destination and event management; and 3️⃣: Capturing evaluation, evidence, and knowledge exchange for learning We’re gathering the views and insights from events ecosystem stakeholders in each home nation including government, arts & culture, sport, volunteering, tourism and funding. Professional Organization Volunteerism/Leadership = Opportunities to Test/Use My Skill Sets Over the last week I was able to help oversee the coordination of the CCCADA Annual Convention, the duty tasked to the 1st VP. Thankful for the work that the entire Executive Board did to make the event a success, from securing quality speakers, engaging sponsors to make the convention affordable for the attendees, and making sure everything ran smoothly. Fortunate that we all knew our roles, which made it all look easy. This convention is unlike the typical ones that I've attended or assisted with over the years, some may say there is more "fun" than learning. On the surface it may seem that way, but with the extended opportunities for the membership to gather and have professional conversations and collaboration, we seem to leave with new ideas and solutions for us to use as we serve our associations, institutions, and student-athletes. In true administrator style, I was able to steal from what others have done to plan, organize, and execute large events and use similar concepts to help us put on a successful event. Glad to have worked with so many that have set great examples for us to follow. Moving forward as the members of the executive board ascend into our new roles within the association, I hope as the incoming president I can live up to the standards set by my predecessors and help progress us forward by using the collaboration and participation of the entire membership. More to come...more to do...a little tired physically but the voluntold cup has been refilled by the quality time spent with another branch of my professional family. I encourage everyone to find a way to get involved or allow yourself to be voluntold, it's worth it.

🐞I’ve definitely got the TEDx bug! I’m sitting on a train this morning, with my two daughters (11&14), on our way to TEDxDonauinsel 10th anniversary event.This will be their first live experience at a TEDx event, and I wonder how they’ll find it 🤔 With a mum and dad (Bertram Knappitsch) devoting a lot of time volunteering with the TEDxKlagenfurt team, I’m hoping they’ll love it.🤞🏻   People often ask me why I get involved in something so time consuming on top of my work and family life. As well as having a very fluid view of work-life integration 🤣, here’s my big fat (but very simple) WHY...   ❗️I want to hold space for other people’s ideas. It’s important.❗️   I know these ideas will make my world bigger, someone else’s world brighter or our shared worlds better. People transform the world with their ideas, but they never do it by themselves. #teamwork   So, we need to take the time to create spaces for simple, complex, reimagined, and disruptive ideas. We need to encourage people to come together, to listen (maybe to something they don’t even like), to reflect and at some level to change. We will dedicate some time to look back on 2024 and recount and celebrate what we have done in this year. As promised, we will share the preliminary results of our JUPITA mapping project. In this, we have been identifying, mapping and connecting people, projects, initiatives, networks, organizations and institutions that are working on justice, power, transformation and/or sustainability. Our research question is: “How and to what extent is the academic community at UU analysing, critiquing and designing the (concepts and intersections) of Justice, Power, Transformation and Sustainability?” In mapping the answer, we launched a survey that yielded 97 responses and conducted 9 in-depth interviews across Utrecht University. We will also present on the Dynamic Learning Agenda: what questions emerged from our Community Day 1 session? How can we/do we want to take these forward?   We will end the event by thanking you all for being involved with JUPITA with drinks & snacks and space for communing. By 17.30, we need to leave the premises. Theresa Winters, the 420th person I've met on my quest to have lunch with 500 strangers, has found a simple yet profound way to make a difference. Theresa is the Dean of the Sydney chapter of Awesome Foundation Sydney, which gives $1,000 no-strings-attached grants to people or groups pursuing impactful projects. Theresa and the other 10 Trustees award one grant per month and fund the grants themselves (by each contributing $100 per month). Most recently, The Awesome Foundation granted $1,000 to the Old Fitz Theatre to buy photography equipment, hire a photographer and host affordable headshot sessions for creatives. It's hard to succeed as a creative without high-quality headshots – but the price can be out of reach for emerging actors, artists and musicians. As Theresa said, this grant may contribute to the emergence of the next Cate Blanchett or Nicole Kidman. Theresa loves the powerful compounding effect that can occur when you give even a modest amount of money to the right recipient at the right time. For her day job, Theresa works in the Alumni team at University of Technology Sydney, which nurtures a community of over 200,000 former UTS students, through a mix of social events and professional development opportunities. Theresa is someone whose lived experience has taught her the importance of relationships. She grew up on a farm outside Chicago, spent time studying in the UK, and has lived in New Zealand, Melbourne and, since 2016, Sydney. Wherever she’s gone, she’s had to keep making new friends. This is relatively easy as a child but can be very hard as an adult, when people already have largely fixed social circles. One way Theresa nurtures her existing relationships is by hosting an annual colour-themed picnic, where guests wear clothing and bring food and drink of a particular colour. "We are but a sum total of our experiences" - B.J. Neblett Last week we had my niece Lily join ProfitAbility for #WorkExperience, and it made me reflect on the many different experiences I've had. Seemingly small decisions can lead to big moments that make a huge impact. The stories (and lessons) are endless, but there some themes to my experiences that were important to my development, and now key to my values: 🤗 Connection: From being a shy waitress to running community events to working online with people across the globe, connection is something that has allowed me to grow as a person and learn so much from others. ✨ Purpose: Volunteering, including set building at The Actors' Church and running workshops for displaced people with Anna-Lee Ramsurrun Pilipala Art gave me so much pleasure. Creating moments of happiness and having a WHY behind what I do is a must. 🌍 Exploration: Variety and creativity is the spice of my life. I love exploring the world, different ideas and topics; something both #FlexibleWorking and the #LearningDesign industry makes possible. I'd love to hear about your 'small moments with huge impacts'. We can learn from eachother 🤗

Companies have employees from diverse geographies. Companies are promoting employees volunteering very enthusiastically. In this context I have a idea, can companies ask their employees to volunteer for their own locality? This may include identifying challenge, designing solutions and convincing company for action. Examples, in this context, can be mentoring youths for their educational and career planning, helping them getting scholarships or visiting nearest government schools and hospitals and finding ways to help them in improving qualitatively.
