It was a pleasure to open the side event (Day 2 of the World Health Organization Global School on the Health of Refugees and Migrants) on Territorial Health and Health Cluster: Partner Collaboration and Stand Exhibition. Strengthening partnerships with local organisations, community leaders, and grassroots initiatives is essential to ensure the successful implementation of health programmes. In the area of Health and Migration, this is even more crucial, by considering determinants of health, such as housing, labour, and education. #healthforall #healthmigration

Special populations, including refugees, internally displaced persons, indigenous and nomadic communities, vary significantly in terms of their cultural practices, spoken languages, and socioeconomic and political status. However, many special populations share common challenges in accessing eye health services, including interventions for trachoma, the world’s leading infectious cause of blindness. Learn how Colombia is implementing human rights based approaches to achieve universal health coverage, including improving access to trachoma interventions for indigenous populations living in the Amazon 👇. #HumanRightsDay https://lnkd.in/g7rZjw67

🌎 Venezuelan Migratory Crisis: Challenges and Opportunities in Colombia’s Health System Colombia has welcomed 2.8 million Venezuelan migrants, navigating significant challenges to ensure access to health services for this population. With support from Elrha, the IMAGINA Centro de Investigación at Universidad de los Andes - Colombia, in collaboration with Brandeis University and Boston College Connell School of Nursing, developed the study: "Strengthening the Health System to Reduce Morbidity and Mortality among Venezuelan Migrant Women and Children in Colombia." This research examines the impact of the Temporary Protection Status for Venezuelan Migrants (TPSVM) on health system enrollment and access to essential services. 🩺📊 Key Findings ✔️ While health system enrollment has increased, service utilization by migrants has declined since 2019. ✔️ Improving communication and guidance on how to access health services is crucial for the migrant population. In a recent dialogue with stakeholders, including Migración Colombia, Ministerio de Salud y Protección Social de Colombia, Cruz Roja Colombiana, Concesionaria Vía Sumapaz, and USAID Colombia Land for Prosperity, we emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to overcome these barriers. 🤔 Why has service utilization decreased among migrants? This is a question we continue to explore through our research. We are grateful to all attendees for their valuable contributions, working together to enhance the well-being of migrant women, children, and adolescents in Colombia. 💪 #ChildrenAreOurCenter #MigrantHealth #VenezuelanMigration #AccessToHealth #Research #SocialDevelopment 📚 Learn more about our research and findings here: https://bit.ly/4f7xuX2

Yesterday on World Population Day, ECDC highlighted the theme "Leave No One Behind, Count Everyone." We emphasized the critical need for inclusive data collection, ensuring refugees and displaced individuals are recognized and supported in global statistics. Accurate data is not just about numbers—it's about shaping policies and programs that provide essential resources like housing, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. At ECDC, we're committed to strengthening our data practices to advocate effectively for every refugee we serve. Let's work together to ensure no one is left invisible or unserved. #WorldPopulationDay #InclusiveData #refugeesupport Check out this press statement here: https://lnkd.in/eP489jPN
