Biggin' up a fellow clinical educator 🫡 Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a Mandatory Training Session for HCAs and RNs, developed and facilitated by Bogdan Chitac. A self-confessed 'nerdy nurse', I was genuinely excited for this session 🥳 Moving and handling - aren't slidesheets just the best invention, ever? - first aid, a bit of safeguarding and pressure area awareness, what's not to love?! 😇 What a session - total respect! As a fellow educator, former health care assistant and nurse with a similar background, I understand and applaud the sheer amount of background work, skill, research, time and lived experience that clearly went into this session. How do I know this? The course content, arrangements, setting and delivery - focused on areas essential from legislative and regulatory perspectives with ever present, highly important 'human' - person-centred - elements, woven throughout: Values, ethics, service user safety, communication, consent, choice and quality of life. Up to date data, educator experience and background enhances training - a great example. Bogdan created a communicative, relaxed, interactive and inclusive atmosphere using case studies, practical demonstrations and discussion to encourage critical thinking among the group. There were timely reminders of professional responsibility and accountability included, eye-catching reference materials and a variety of up to date, well maintained equipment for demonstration and learner participation. Snoozing in class or simply "ticking boxes"? 🧐 Nope - not in this session! Bogdan didn't just tick the training/education box. He opened it, took it apart, demonstrated all the 'bits', put them back together, explained why, discussed and encouraged his learners to do the same, considering each intervention from a rationale-based approach 🔎 Mandatory training done right! Bravo 👏 As an experienced registered nurse and educator, Bogdan has walked the walk and speaks from experience. Thankyou for letting me tag along. It was an excellent refresher - I really enjoyed the session and meeting everyone. Happy Friday, folks! I am ready for another #SitDownSaturday 🤩 #JobWellDone #Collaboration #MandatoryTraining #Accountability #Responsibility

What does it mean to be a foreign-trained nurse (FTN)? Hearing that phrase for the first time? Let me share my experience as a FTN in 5 Lines: 1. Moving from West to East Africa taught me: - ADAPTABILITY: I had to embrace a new culture, food, tradition, and academic environment. 2. Learning Luganda, the widely spoken language, to provide effective patient care gave me a firsthand experience of TRANSCULTURAL NURSING. 3. Serving as the class representative, I was the intermediary between the HOD, lecturers, senior nurses, and my coursemates (I couldn't skip clinical placement or classes). This taught me LEADERSHIP. 4. As the class representative, I was expected to know the answer to all questions and maintain my position as the top student. Early mornings became my best friend. I started my days at 2:00 a.m to study, which taught me RESILIENCE. 5. As pioneering nursing students at our university, we served as test subjects for curriculum adjustments. This taught me ADAPTABILITY. 📍 Fun fact: I had an uncle who constantly reminded me to focus on my studies and avoid bringing a Ugandan man home 😅 It's a new week! I pray your week is filled with God's blessings and favour. Stay connected with Gadima Love , your digital nurse 🩺, to follow my journey as I transition from a foreign-trained nurse (FTN) to RN in Nigeria. PS: Which line did you find most interesting?

Agreed. Very educational, but should not be utilized for competency.
In all honesty, escape rooms are one of the best ways to engage nurse learners! 💜 What other fun educational experiences have you created? 🎲

The Story of a Nurse Educator: Igniting Passion, Inspiring Change As a child, I was driven by an unrelenting desire to make a difference. Watching my primary school teachers spark enthusiasm in the classroom, I realized the transformative power of education. Their dedication inspired me to become an agent of positive change. Throughout my academic journey, from secondary school to tertiary education, I seized every opportunity to lead presentations, facilitate group study sessions, and share knowledge with others. With each experience, my passion for education grew, and I discovered the ripple effect of empowering others through knowledge. Now, as a nurse educator, I continue to nurture this passion. I recognize the significance of educating patients on their conditions, prevention strategies, and self-care techniques. Every conversation, every lesson, and every interaction becomes an opportunity to inspire positive change. My involvement with Rotaract has been instrumental in shaping my skills and amplifying my impact. This platform has provided me with invaluable experiences, mentorship, and growth opportunities, enabling me to refine my craft and make a more meaningful difference. As I reflect on my journey, I'm reminded that education is the catalyst for transformative change. As a nurse educator, I'm committed to igniting this spark in others, empowering them to take control of their health and well-being. I believe that every interaction, every lesson, and every conversation has the potential to inspire a brighter, healthier future. *#NurseEducator #Rotaract #HealthEducation #MakingADifference #EmpoweringOthers*

Delighted to introduce English for Nursing Foundation, the latest in SLC's portfolio of #English for #Healthcare courses. Nurses in non-English speaking countries around the world are under increasing pressure to improve their professional English language and communication skills - whether it be to care for international patients, communicate with international colleagues, win promotion, keep up with research, attend seminars and conferences, or work and study in other countries. However the English they learn while studying may only amount to a few weeks at best. This online course gives nurses and nursing students a strong foundation in the English language and communications skills needed across multiple key areas of care, from patient admission, to personal care, mobility, pressure area care, pain management, elderly care, infection control, and mental health. It also provides an excellent foundation for further study. The course works seamlessly on all devices, and is designed for both self-study and tutored/blended courses. If you're interested in reviewing the content, please get in touch. #firstformedicalenglish
