🚀 New Episode Alert: Underdawg Talk with Jamaal Nelson! 🎙️ I'm thrilled to share the latest episode of Underdawg Talk featuring the inspiring Jamaal Nelson, a 26-year-old historian, entrepreneur, and author on a mission to educate and empower through Black culture and history. In this episode, we dive deep into his journey, the challenges he faced, and the impactful work he’s doing today. Here are three key takeaways that resonated with me and I believe will inspire you too: The Power of Self-Education 📚 Jamaal's journey began in the military, where he reached a low point. It was during this time that he discovered the transformative power of reading. He shared how picking up "The New Jim Crow" by Michelle Alexander opened his eyes to the systemic issues affecting the Black community. This led him to read over 200 books on Black history and culture. The takeaway? Never underestimate the power of self-education. Whether through books, podcasts, or documentaries, taking the initiative to learn can change your perspective and empower you to make a difference. Creating Tangible Impact 🎲 Jamaal didn't just stop at educating himself; he took it a step further by creating a board game and a trivia app centered around Black culture and history. His goal was to make learning fun and accessible, allowing people to laugh while they learn. This highlights an essential lesson for all entrepreneurs: when you have an idea, think about how you can create a tangible product that serves your community. It’s not just about having a vision; it’s about executing it in a way that adds value to others. The Importance of Community and Emotional Intelligence 🤝 Throughout our conversation, Jamaal emphasized the significance of community and understanding our emotions. He pointed out that many individuals react impulsively due to a lack of emotional intelligence, which can lead to negative outcomes. By fostering a sense of community and encouraging open dialogue, we can help each other navigate challenges more effectively. This is a reminder that our actions and reactions not only reflect on us but also on our communities. We must strive to uplift one another and approach conflicts with understanding rather than aggression. I encourage you to listen to this episode and reflect on how these takeaways can apply to your own life and work. Jamal's story is a testament to the power of resilience, education, and community. Let’s continue to support each other on our journeys as underdogs with heroic hearts! 💪🏾❤️ 🔗 Watch the full episode here! https://lnkd.in/g8GQz5F6 #UnderdawgTalk #Podcast #BlackHistory #SelfEducation #Entrepreneurship #Community #EmotionalIntelligence

Want to know why hip hop culture is the most powerful vehicle to create change? Check out this podcast interview about how the birth of hip hop created systemic change and because of that, became weaponized with commercialization that degraded the culture. But that’s not the end of the story. The new Green Age of Hip Hop is building momentum, and here’s how: https://lnkd.in/g_7nNE9y

Was the Road House remake terrible or was it not that bad? 🤔 Chase Proctor and I covered our first movie for Red ‘N Red this week, and I approached it with a different strategy. I watched the new Road House first before watching the original so I could review it without any bias! How do Post Malone and Conor McGregor fit into our conversation about this new remake? I've listened to three episodes of Liv Boeree's Win-Win podcast and I'll experiment with making this one of my top 10 go-to podcasts. The main reasons for this are: 1. I agree with her that collective action problems/tragedy of the commons are a key driver of the problems we're facing and find the "Win-Win" focus refreshing. For example, her questions seem to cover both the underlying incentives and collaborative, non-zero-sum solutions. 2. Liv and several of her guests are key thinkers/doers in areas that are central to my intellectual and ethical interests. However, some are also sufficiently different (yet still sufficiently rigorous and altruistic) to broaden my perspective a bit. 3. The majority of the content I process is from people who are very similar to me (UK/US-based males), and I think it's valuable to diversify by having a female voice. If these reasons resonate, you might want to give it a go. For instance, by listening to her episode with Nick Bostrom on his new book Deep Utopia https://lnkd.in/e5-nsiHt
