They face the dangers of death, injury, and the collapse of essential infrastructure due to ongoing conflict situations. 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀: • Potential Military Actions: The possible incursion into Rafah could exacerbate an already disastrous humanitarian situation 🚩🚩🚩 • Humanitarian Challenges: Hospitals are under-supplied and overwhelmed, with severe restrictions on access to vital services. Even accessing aid has become perilous 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆: • The Rafah military incursion is not inevitable • The Protection Cluster for the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the Global Protection Cluster emphasize that the protection of civilians, including children, must remain the highest priority • We advocate for an immediate and permanent ceasefire as the only viable solution to prevent further suffering and casualties among Gaza's civilians. 1.7 million people have been forced into a corner in Rafah. And despite promises of safety, the bombs have continued dropping. After almost eight months of violent conflict, people are wounded, hungry and have no place to go. There is no safe place left in Gaza. This must end now. We call for the next UK government to urgently: 🔴 call for an immediate ceasefire 🔴 increase the daily flow of humanitarian aid coming to Gaza – including water, fuel, food and medicine – to restart vital infrastructure such as hospitals and water and sanitation services 🔴 prioritise the protection of all civilians from military action, including the release of hostages 🔴 ensure International Humanitarian Law is upheld 🔴 increase humanitarian funding to urgently meet people’s basic needs 🔴 prevent the use of violence against civilians by Israeli settlers in Area C of the West Bank and end restrictions on the movement of Palestinian communities in the West Bank. Gaza one year on: European Union and its Member States should take decisive diplomatic action to ensure the protection of civilians, uphold International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and guarantee unimpeded humanitarian access in Gaza. The time to act is now!
📢Almost a year after the escalation of violence in #Gaza, the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen, with devastating consequences for civilians. Since October 2023, over 41,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, including more than 11,000 children, and the situation is rapidly deteriorating in the region. Humanitarian workers are also at risk, with more than 280 having been killed while trying to provide aid to those in need. The obstruction of #humanitarian access has left over two million people without essential supplies like food, water, and healthcare. As the leading European network of humanitarian #NGOs, VOICE calls on the European Union and its Member States to take decisive diplomatic action to ensure the protection of civilians, uphold International Humanitarian Law (#IHL), and guarantee unimpeded humanitarian access in Gaza. The time to act is now! 🔽Read our full statement here

The humanitarian situation in #Gaza continues to worsen. Since the bombing of displaced persons in #Rafah on 26 May, there have been ongoing strikes across the Gaza Strip, resulting in civilian casualties, displacement and the destruction of vital civilian infrastructure. Since October 7, at least 36,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip and another 83,000 Palestinians reportedly injured, according to ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e5mahnqX On 6 June, an #airstrike hit a UN-run school in Gaza and killed 37 people, including 14 children, with others injured. When #explosiveweapons are used in populated areas, they destroy vital infrastructure that civilians depend on. The effects of these explosive weapons are often indiscriminate, with a staggering pattern of harm resulting in death and injuries of civilians. In a recent statement, Volker Türk stated “the killing, destruction and widespread human rights violations are unacceptable, and must cease immediately”. INEW calls on all parties to conflict to stop the use of #EWIPA due to the high risk of harm to civilians. #StopBombingCivilians

🔴 Humanitarian Situation Update – OCHA Occupied Palestinian Territory The situation in the West Bank continues to deteriorate, with growing humanitarian concerns following the escalation of Israeli military operations. 📅 Key Highlights (27 August - 2 September): The past week saw the deadliest escalation in the West Bank since November 2023, with 30 Palestinians killed, including seven children, and four Israeli forces killed by Palestinians in Hebron and Jenin. Airstrikes have become more frequent, with 10 Palestinians killed in recent strikes, contributing to a sharp rise in fatalities in 2024. Movement restrictions in Hebron (H2) since October 2023 have severely impacted access to essential services, with reports of detentions and allegations of harassment at checkpoints. 🔺 Latest Developments (Post 2 September): On 3 September, Israeli forces killed a 16-year-old girl in Jenin and two Palestinians in Tulkarm following armed clashes. 🚨 UN Response: On 31 August, the UN Human Rights Office condemned the excessive use of force during Israeli military operations in Jenin and other parts of the West Bank, calling for an immediate halt to the attacks on Jenin refugee camp. 🌍 Urgent Update on the Gaza Crisis: What You Need to Know The situation in Gaza, especially in Rafah and Gaza City, is rapidly deteriorating. Israeli airstrikes have intensified, leading to significant casualties and destruction despite global condemnation and calls for a ceasefire. This escalation has severely impacted civilians, creating a dire humanitarian crisis with acute shortages of food, clean water, and medical supplies. The UN has reported on the dire conditions, emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian aid and calling for investigations into possible violations of international law. Key Insights: Intense Military Actions: Israeli airstrikes in Rafah and Gaza City have escalated significantly, leading to high civilian casualties and extensive infrastructure damage. The attacks continue despite a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) calling for an end to hostilities and significant international condemnation. Humanitarian Crisis: The conflict has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medical supplies, with thousands of civilians displaced and living in dire conditions. Efforts to provide relief are hindered by ongoing violence and blockades. International Response: Despite global calls for a ceasefire and a humanitarian pause, no significant progress has been made in negotiations. The UN has expressed deep concern over the humanitarian impact and the treatment of detainees, highlighting the need for immediate action and accountability. UN Concerns: The UNRWA has reported extensive damage to its facilities, many of which were sheltering displaced people. I spoke with CNN on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza earlier today. Words cannot capture what people are enduring--particularly in the north. Mercy Corps provided our assessment--along with seven other NGOs that have been working to either provide aid or monitor the humanitarian situation--on the conditions for Israel to improve the provision of humanitarian assistance laid out in an October 13 letter from Secretaries Blinken and Austin. These conditions have not only largely not been met, but have actually deteriorated since the letter was sent. The result--if dramatic changes are not made--will be loss of life due to famine conditions that are now present across Gaza and pervasive in particularly in the north. These deaths--affecting children in the greatest numbers-- will occur despite clear warnings and evidence provided by humanitarian actors desperate to assist civilians.

Defend UNRWA from the Israeli ban and prevent catastrophic consequences for Palestinians, says over 50 organisations, including Oxfam. 👉 The Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee passed two bills on 6 October 2024 aimed at ceasing UNRWA's operations. These bills await final readings in the Knesset Plenum as soon as 28 October 2024. 👉 This could see UNRWA evicted from premises it has held for over 70 years and have its immunities revoked, severely blocking its ability to provide essential services such as healthcare and education to millions of Palestine refugees. 👉 This reckless move threatens to dismantle the backbone of the international humanitarian operation in Gaza, aggravating an already catastrophic crisis. Israel’s ban on #UNRWA imposes severe humanitarian challenges on the beneficiaries of its services in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It is considered a political and legal overstep in light of the agency’s mandate, history, and roles. Additionally, the ban highlights the issue of global governance and its ability to provide an appropriate response in an increasingly tense world, especially in terms of relief efforts and humanitarian aid. #ستراتيجيكس #STRATEGIECS https://bit.ly/4i3QF6x

The Famine Review Committee report, released yesterday, presents a bleak picture and projects imminent famine in Gaza, but it also emphasises that steps to avert the famine or alleviate its severity are still possible. The report contains a number of sector specific recommendations. These are some of the key ones: - The catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip requires an extremely urgent political response. - The cessation of hostilities in conjunction with sustained restoration of humanitarian and commercial access to the entire Gaza Strip remain the essential requirements to avert and/or alleviate famine. - Attacks against health care workers must cease. Civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected, as required under International Humanitarian Law - The humanitarian system should continue preparations to rapidly scale up humanitarian assistance if access improves, as well as maintain contingency plans for various scenarios, including an escalation in conflict, a ground attack on Rafah, further mass displacement to different locations, and a large-scale outbreak of infectious disease, such as cholera. https://lnkd.in/e4fVEyEm

"The Famine threshold for acute food insecurity has already been far exceeded and the steeply increasing trend in malnutrition data indicates that it is highly likely that the Famine threshold for acute malnutrition has also been exceeded. The FRC expects the upward trend in non-trauma mortality to accelerate and for all Famine thresholds to be passed imminently." "It is important to note, however, that the Famine thresholds for acute food insecurity, as well as for acute malnutrition (Extremely Critical), have already been surpassed." "The primary drivers of the food security, nutrition, and mortality situation in Gaza Strip are the conflict intensity and highly constrained/restricted access, defined as the ability of humanitarian and private actors to deliver the necessary supplies and services to the most vulnerable population." "It is estimated that only a maximum of 10-15% of the food needs in terms of Kilocalories have been entering in the northern governorates in the period January – February 2024. The few air-drop attempts have proven ineffective in delivering the quantities required and have involved a high risk to beneficiaries" #famine #malnutrition #Gaza #nutritionist #strategiesforhealthandhumanity #integratedfoodsecurityphaseclassification #foodsecurity #faminereviewcommittee #forceddisplacements #constrictedhumanitarianaccess
