Israel’s ban on #UNRWA imposes severe humanitarian challenges on the beneficiaries of its services in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It is considered a political and legal overstep in light of the agency’s mandate, history, and roles. Additionally, the ban highlights the issue of global governance and its ability to provide an appropriate response in an increasingly tense world, especially in terms of relief efforts and humanitarian aid. #ستراتيجيكس #STRATEGIECS https://bit.ly/4i3QF6x

Gaza one year on: European Union and its Member States should take decisive diplomatic action to ensure the protection of civilians, uphold International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and guarantee unimpeded humanitarian access in Gaza. The time to act is now!
📢Almost a year after the escalation of violence in #Gaza, the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen, with devastating consequences for civilians. Since October 2023, over 41,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, including more than 11,000 children, and the situation is rapidly deteriorating in the region. Humanitarian workers are also at risk, with more than 280 having been killed while trying to provide aid to those in need. The obstruction of #humanitarian access has left over two million people without essential supplies like food, water, and healthcare. As the leading European network of humanitarian #NGOs, VOICE calls on the European Union and its Member States to take decisive diplomatic action to ensure the protection of civilians, uphold International Humanitarian Law (#IHL), and guarantee unimpeded humanitarian access in Gaza. The time to act is now! 🔽Read our full statement here

Where is the collectove voice of the development and humanitarian agencies ?
We are shocked by the Israeli parliament’s decision to ban UNRWA. If UNRWA can no longer provide humanitarian assistance, this will have dramatic consequences for people in Gaza and the West Bank. The international humanitarian community cannot absorb or take over the scale of emergency assistance that is needed in this conflict without the support of UNRWA. Despite the enormous challenges, we will continue to support the people in #Gaza and the #WestBank, together with our international and local partners, while we keep calling for more #humanitarian access and an immediate #ceasefire. 𝑼𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑪𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝑹𝒂𝒇𝒂𝒉 (#Gaza) 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: The lives of 2.3 million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip are under severe threat. They face the dangers of death, injury, and the collapse of essential infrastructure due to ongoing conflict situations. 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀: • Potential Military Actions: The possible incursion into Rafah could exacerbate an already disastrous humanitarian situation 🚩🚩🚩 • Humanitarian Challenges: Hospitals are under-supplied and overwhelmed, with severe restrictions on access to vital services. Even accessing aid has become perilous 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆: • The Rafah military incursion is not inevitable • The Protection Cluster for the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the Global Protection Cluster emphasize that the protection of civilians, including children, must remain the highest priority • We advocate for an immediate and permanent ceasefire as the only viable solution to prevent further suffering and casualties among Gaza's civilians. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: • According to international humanitarian law and directives from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the government of Israel must implement strategies that minimize civilian harm, including to children. • We urge an immediate halt to attacks on Rafah and other areas where civilians are most vulnerable 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: • We demand a significant increase in humanitarian access to Gaza, especially through land crossings, to ensure aid can reach those in desperate need throughout the Strip. #ChildProtection For further details, please read our full statement here: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eZvFhB6Z

The situation in #Sudan is dire as the conflict drags on unabated. 9 months into the year, #Sudan's humanitarian requirements are only 41% funded. Humanitarians are on the ground working tirelessly to help people in urgent need. But we need more funding and unimpeded access to deliver aid across borders and battle lines. More on the crisis 🔽 #KeepEyesOnSudan

1.7 million people have been forced into a corner in Rafah. And despite promises of safety, the bombs have continued dropping. After almost eight months of violent conflict, people are wounded, hungry and have no place to go. There is no safe place left in Gaza. This must end now. We call for the next UK government to urgently: 🔴 call for an immediate ceasefire 🔴 increase the daily flow of humanitarian aid coming to Gaza – including water, fuel, food and medicine – to restart vital infrastructure such as hospitals and water and sanitation services 🔴 prioritise the protection of all civilians from military action, including the release of hostages 🔴 ensure International Humanitarian Law is upheld 🔴 increase humanitarian funding to urgently meet people’s basic needs 🔴 prevent the use of violence against civilians by Israeli settlers in Area C of the West Bank and end restrictions on the movement of Palestinian communities in the West Bank. Open the borders to Israel and immediately create temporary Blue Helmets/UN-peace-force controlled and UNHCR managed refugee facilities in Israel! Why? Most of Gaza, except Rafah, has meanwhile become uninhabitable, so there no longer is an option to internally relocate people. If the displaced Gazan civilians are evacuated to Israel, the IDF can achieve its military goals without causing any further collateral civilian damage, while at the same time being in Israel will very likely guarantee the return of the Gazans as soon as this is possible again. Ceasefire now! www.pax.ngo & www.convergence.ngo
Children and families in northern Gaza are just weeks away from famine. Once a famine is declared, it is too late for too many people. Conditions to safely and adequately provide humanitarian assistance to children in Gaza are deteriorating every week. Any denial of humanitarian assistance is a Grave Violation against children. It is also tantamount to collective punishment and illegal under international humanitarian law. Any use of starvation as a method of warfare is strictly prohibited as a war crime. #Gaza #CeasefireNOW

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has said 7.9 million Nigerians are in urgent need of humanitarian aid in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states. The three states have been ravaged by insecurity, mainly Boko Haram insurgents, killing thousands and displacing millions for about two decades. Conflict continues to have severe security, humanitarian, socio-economic and political impacts across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states. The lives of 230,000 children in the North East are on the line as a result of malnutrition and severe crisis. Join us at PSJ UK as we make efforts to end these acts of kidnapping and ensure that there is peace in Nigeria. Source: Daily Trust #insurgency #humanitarian #unitednations #psjuk

Idk if this makes any difference to the world!!! “On the day new data is out on famine in #GAZA, the Israeli Authorities deny my entry to Gaza. - Famine is imminent in the northern Gaza Strip, expected to arrive between now and May. - Two million people = the entire population of Gaza is facing crisis levels of food insecurity or worse. - Half the population has completely exhausted food supplies and coping capacities. They are struggling with catastrophic hunger (IPC Phase 5) and starvation. - This is the highest number of people ever recorded as facing catastrophic hunger by the IPC system and double the number just three months ago. - Earlier, UNICEF warned that the # of children under two years old suffering from acute malnutrition has doubled in one month. - Children are now dying of dehydration & hunger. UNRWA has by far the largest presence among all humanitarian organisations in Gaza. My visit today was supposed to coordinate & improve the humanitarian response. This man-made starvation under our watch is a stain on our collective humanity. Too much time was wasted, all land crossings must open now. Famine can be averted with political will." Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner-General

The situation in Rafah, Gaza, is currently drawing significant international concern. The recent escalations have led to severe humanitarian issues, including the displacement of over 80,000 people and critical shortages of essential supplies. Humanitarian organizations are calling for an immediate ceasefire and the reopening of aid routes to prevent further catastrophe. The complexity of the conflict and its impact on civilians necessitate urgent global attention and intervention. #HumanitarianCrisis #Gaza #Rafah #InternationalAid #CeasefireNow #all_eyes_on_rafah #alleyesonrafah
