The Meerwind Offshore Wind Farm, located in the North Sea about 53 kilometers off the German coast, has a total installed capacity of 288 megawatts (MW). The project has been operational since February 2015 and is one of Germany's largest commissioned offshore wind farms. In 2016, China Three Gorges Corporation acquired an 80% stake in the Meerwind Wind Power Project, becoming the first Chinese company to hold a majority share in an operational overseas offshore wind farm. This acquisition enabled China Three Gorges to leverage Germany's advanced technology and experience, further expanding its offshore wind power business in Europe and globally, thus making a positive contribution to the global energy transition. Global offshore wind projects have encountered notable challenges from recent inflationary pressures and supply chain disruptions. These issues have led to postponed permitting processes, delayed auctions and slow supply chain developments. However, the sector managed to overcome these obstacles in 2023, achieving a 7% increase in new capacity additions compared to the previous year. Rystad Energy anticipates that this growth in the offshore wind sector will persist at a steady rate, projecting that global installations, excluding mainland China, will surpass 520 GW by 2040. After the CIP signed the MoU with Petrovietnam (PVN), a state-owned Vietnamese oil and gas company, Corio has announced a MoU with EVNGENCO3, a subsidiary of state-owned power company Vietnam Electricity (EVN). The MoU aims to collaborate on long-term strategies for offshore wind project development in Vietnam. This partnership aligns with Vietnam's goal of achieving net zero emissions, including targets of 6 GW of offshore wind power by 2030, which is known as Power Development Plan 8 (PDP8) approved by the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and 70 GW to 91.5 GW by 2050. Taiwan is aiming to be the APAC Offshore Wind Energy Hub, is our supply chain ready to support other countries? or should I ask can we compete with other countries with the escalating prices? #offshorewind #vietnam #energytransition #PDP8 https://lnkd.in/g53m967H
