Looking back on 2 inspiring days last week at the Sustainability Expo with lots of interesting presentations, panel discussions and talks. Fortunately, there is good progress on Scope 1,2 and 3 reductions at many companies, but there is also still a lot to do. And not only on the E in ESG, but certainly also on the S. Human rights, living income, child labour, diversity and inclusion, the position of women, these are all social challenges that we also need to address. And preferably we tackle the E, S and G together (companies, NGOs and governments) in integrated programs so that we can make a maximum contribution to achieving the ESG commitments. #ESG #Sustainability #SDGs

✨ Thrilled to share reflections from our founder, Axelle Ahanhanzo, on the recent Women of the Future Programme event held in London, where she was honored as one of the 50 Global Rising Stars in ESG! 🌍 The panel discussion hosted by the Financial Times's Global Head of DEI, Rukasana Bhaijee brought together inspiring changemakers like Julieta Martínez Oyarzún from Fundación Tremendas, Laura Jardine Paterson from CONCAT Tech, Esther Leferink from Rabobank and Belinda Ng from ERM, to address the vital role of women in driving ESG initiatives. Here are some key takeaways that resonated deeply with Axelle: 1️⃣ ESG as a Value Creator: It’s essential to view ESG not merely as a cost, but as a powerful investment in our future. As women, we hold the potential to lead this charge, shaping a world that prioritizes equity and sustainability. 2️⃣ The Power of Data: Both qualitative and quantitative data are crucial for transparency in ESG. ❓ Need ideas on how to work on implementing environmental sustainability at your company. 📉 Emerson published its sustainability report yesterday: With a Leadership Level CDP score of an A-, they are a great example of best practices in sustainability and their report deserves a deeper look. Here are my takeaways from the report that are great guidelines for any company working on implementing environmental sustainability goals. 🌎 Emerson classified their Environmental Sustainability into 3 sections: -         📗Greening of Emerson -         📗Greening by Emerson -         📗Greening with Emerson 🌎This is an excellent way to think about the role you can play in sustainability, greening your own operations, providing products and services that help your clients be greener, and participating in industry, government, and societal initiatives and organizations to collaborate and innovate to help the industry and world get greener. 🌎To green their own operations, Emerson focused on net zero operations, reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by finding energy efficiencies, using renewable energy, and benefiting from grid decarbonization. They also embarked on a zero-waste initiative adopting circular economy principles and examining their waste hierarchy, engaging suppliers, employees, and waste management providers to further this goal. 🌎Greening by Emerson – is how Emerson enables emission reductions and environmental sustainability improvements for their customers. This can be a big competitive advantage over your competitors, as your customers try to address their own emission reduction goals and become more energy efficient. In this section, Emerson captures how they use the products and services in their portfolio to show how innovation through collaboration is a key to the net zero economy. Their portfolio helps customers in four strategic areas: energy source decarbonization, energy, and emissions management, electrification and grid systems, and circularity and waste reduction. 🌎And finally, in the “Greening with Emerson section”, Emerson showcases how they use their technical perspective and global reach to collaborate with key stakeholders, engaging across their entire value chain. Working in partnership with government, industry, research, and other organizations. Overall, kudos to Emerson for making great progress on sustainability in the past year, on all fronts, from greening their own operations to helping customers get greener and participating in collaboration for a more sustainable future for all their stakeholders. The event of Women on Board reminded us that ESG is a Board Member Imperative. Beyond legal compliance, board members are responsible for challenging management on their sustainability strategy and targets. Is our business model viable in 2050, given what we know already today about climate change and demographic consequences? What material topics should be addressed in the short and long term? Are we maintaining the necessary pace to decarbonize? Identifying and addressing key material topics requires deep discussions, setting ambitious targets, and comprehensive reporting. Boards must resist the tendency to stick to 'business as usual.' Instead, we should envision a sustainable future and lead the company toward it. The chair of the board plays a pivotal role in driving these critical discussions. Sustainability isn’t just a duty—it’s a leadership challenge. #boarddiscussions #esg #womenonboard
