Some Friday thoughts: Embracing authenticity is something often talked about out, but not always put into practice, despite our best efforts. As opera singers, we want to impress the crowd, even when what we think people want goes against what is most natural to express our vocal abilities, especially in the world of opera where passion and genuine expression shine the brightest. Remember to focus on the genuine aspects of your voice rather than getting caught up in a style that doesn't suit you. Your unique voice has its own story to tell, and it deserves to be heard authentically. Don't try to fit into a mold; instead, let your true voice resonate with sincerity and emotion. #operasinger #authenticity #embracethevoice #queenofopera

Are you ever afraid it's not going to WORK? Every profession has its 'what if' moments, but for opera singers, it's all about "THE VOICE". WHAT IF IT STOPS? WHAT IF I CRACK? WHAT IF, WHAT IF, WHAT IF!! We have a long list of these fears, and I'm sure you have your own in your industry. Curious about how we keep our voices in top shape? Check out my latest blog post on Living Opera. Who knew high notes needed so much care? Link to the post is in the comments!

🛌 Would you know where to start buying a bed for your elderly parent? For many, buying a bed to help with care needs can be daunting and confusing. I recently met Phyllis and Tracy, who were both new to the world of profiling beds. Our latest video hears more on their story, and how Phyllis wouldn't be without her new bed (despite her not wanting one initially) I'm sure Phyllis and Tracy's story will inspire others and make life easier for people in similar situations. As always, pleasure working with Owen and Gus from NORTHERN VISUALS on this project. #OperaBeds #CustomerStory #Storytelling #Video

When Tracy noticed her mother was struggling with her old bed, she knew it was time for a change. After a personalised consultation, understanding the needs of her mother with COPD, our team installed an Opera profiling bed - and the pair couldn't be happier. See how the perfect bed can transform lives and restore independence. Read what Erik Ralske, (Principal Horn - Metropolitan Opera Orchestra) has to say about the Brass Witch: "Brass Witch is such an ingenious accessory for brass players! You'll always be ready with a pencil for rehearsal. It's stronger and more convenient than those plastic pencil clips. I love mine. Now I'm the guy who's always lending out my pencil because no, I always have one!" 💡 These make perfect gifts for the holidays. What if we told you we can uncover your optimal price range AND better gauge your customer base's perceptions of you while doing so? Well that's exactly what we did for our friends at the San Diego Opera (with the help of Q2 Insights)! In this case study, we dive deep into helping the SDO understand current and prospective patrons' attitudes, beliefs, barriers, and motivations towards the opera. This is a subject I am also grappling with. Somehow, it’s hard to move opera’s great institutions into the 21st century. In a world in desperate need of a new Vision for the future, why are we enslaved to the stories of the 19th century in one of history’s most exciting, emotionally charged, physically and acoustically vibrant art forms? Instead of broken-record 100+ year old pieces, the opera could return to its historical role: as the performing arts’ greatest innovator. Let’s find our composers, librettists and storytellers—and give them opportunities to learn, explore, and exchange with their audiences and performers. Let’s shake up the format—so that people can digest the pieces in a high-paced world. Let’s stop settling for blasé and formulaic, Sexist, backwards, and downright ridiculous. Let’s let the voices of opera rise to regenerate and reinvigorate us to move forward—as they always have in the past. (Especially as it was once in my beloved Vienna, the opera capital of the world.) Opera should ignite our senses, emotions and imaginations. Settling for less ensures its decline.
Finally got to e-meet Sean Kelly this week and it was just as energizing and thought-provoking as I expected. One of the questions he asked me was "What's your favorite opera?" It got me thinking, "What operas would I actually WANT to attend, now that I'm on the other side of the stage?" If I'm being honest, I'm tired of operas with convoluted plots and archaic stereotypes. I want to see a story told with real depth and sensitivity. I want a narrative that resonates with contemporary issues and emotions; a piece of art that is grounded in authenticity and empathy. So here are my top two. What are yours? 🌟 "This is Not That Dawn by Omar Najmi 🌟 Freedom Ride by Dan Shore 📷 @aspiring.opera.singers #opera #relevance
