Do you wake up with a dry mouth? That’s often a sign you’re breathing too much air It usually means you're breathing through your mouth all night—what some call "catching flies." Want to feel the difference? Take a big mouthful of air right now. (don't do this if you've got asthma, hay fever, panic attacks, sleep apnoea, and/or heart disease) It's dry, cold, and definitely not inviting Contrast that with your nose, which is designed to filter, humidify, and warm every breath Here are two simple shifts to help with this: 🛌🏻Sleep on your left side 🥱Tape your mouth at night (using micropore tape—trust me, it’s life-changing!) If your snoring doesn’t ease over time, take a look at your breathing rate Most people are breathing more than 12 breaths a minute, which can impact your health more than you might think. To check, head over to my Featured section, where I’ve shared a simple way to measure. Your latest iPhone or Oura ring measures this I didn’t care about breathing this way until I hit 36. Then, even as a triathlete, I noticed the weight creeping up, restless nights, and frequent trips to the toilet disrupting my sleep If you're over 50, maybe you’re noticing similar patterns. It’s not just about sleep—it’s about feeling energised and healthy ♻️ Reshare if you found this helpful 📢 Share your experiences below P.S. Happy Halloween 👻
The myth is you need 7 to 9 hours sleep. It's more about the quality than the quantity
Are you waking up tired?
A lot of people like scientific evidence for things and there isn't much for mouth taping; only that I've done it for 20 years and it works for me. You'll see me on airplanes with it on too, an eye mask and ear plugs. I say give it a go, but be mindful that some tape may cause skin irritation, an allergic reaction or rash from using the wrong kind of tape. That's why I use a microporous kind. Yes, it's probably not for everyone either like if your nose is blocked.
👍 In fact, waking up with a dry mouth is frequently a sign of excessive airflow, usually a sign of mouth breathing at night, which is a rather unpleasant habit compared to "catching flies." One can reduce snoring and improve respiratory vitality and efficiency by adopting the life-changing techniques of lateral sleeping and using micropore tape to keep the mouth closed while sleeping.
Wow, that is 🤯. I took a big gulp of air with my mouth and it kinda strained my back-of-the-throat too. Thanks for the insights today, Chris. 💖🫡💥 It's a goood goood day (Festival is happening here in India! 🥹✨)
This is really helpful. I breathe through my mouth sometimes, because I struggle getting enough breath in through my nose due to the amount of times I've broken it Chris Lewis 🚀 .I don't think I'm going to start taping my mouth, can't sleep on my left side, but do sleep on the right. Why is the left side important?
Thanks for sharing jjust to add waking with cotton mouth now and then is a common experience, but when dry mouth becomes chronic, it can be more than simply uncomfortable. It may be a symptom of some potentially serious health conditions, or it could be as simple as a side effect of a medication you're taking
Thank you for sharing these tips Chris Lewis 🚀 I feel a sense of comfort when I sleep on my left side. The worst position is sleeping on my back. I can't stand it for more than a few minutes.
Great tips! Breathing through your nose improves sleep quality significantly .
