PBMs make it harder for patients to access the medications they need by dictating what medications are available, where they can be filed, and how long it takes for them to even get them! This lengthy and frustrating process means delays in treatment, confusion for patients, and added stress during an already difficult time! Oncologists want what's best for their patients, but these type of restrictions make it harder to deliver the care our patients deserve!
Pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) undermine and question physician orders, delaying access for patients for the sake of bureaucracy. What qualifies PBMs to know more about a patient’s needs and clinical guidance than their oncologist? George, a patient with multiple myeloma, was prescribed two specific medications that work together. However, the PBM-mandated pharmacy refused to send his medication, doubting the oncologist's decision. The oncologist was perplexed, as these medications are commonly prescribed together, and George had been on this combination for nearly 18 months without any issues. The PBM continued to question the oncologist, further delaying George's treatment. https://bit.ly/4fauj0Q #PBM #PBMReform #PharmacyBenefitManager
