First pass on a low-resolution video with overlapping characters and scene cuts, using #wonderstudio GenAI, it automatically animated, lighted, and composed my CG character into the Tin Man's dance. With some glitches, it did a pretty great job with their pattern mapping system. All I needed was the Tin Man's hat! #machinelearning #genai #creativeprocess

Not only will reference footage evolve into stylized AI filters, but it also underscores the enduring importance of carefully planning your scenes. While the tools may change, the necessity of thoughtful scene planning remains crucial.
A behind-the-scenes look at my process for creating this AI water video: On the left, I recorded myself performing all the actions and demonstrated some of my compositing techniques using masking and shape layers. On the right, you can see the final result after being generated in ComfyUI.

creAItive dAIrection A good example of where the journey is heading and that generative #AI does not completely replace the creative process, but shortens the production process and replaces other artists of course because one person can now do it. The result is still difficult to control compared to a method with photo/film, 3D CGI/simulation and compositing, but it is incomparably faster and creative direction will become more and more possible in the near future. But the question is: can you make a good living with the results in a short time? I fear that AI promotes more "pay by time" instead of "pay by value". By the way, this text was translated with DeepL. 😎

New AI Short Film. 'Edith and Fred' . A fun excuse to play around with a new video 'restyle' feature from Runway ML Gen 3. It's far from perfect, but it is interesting and kind of fun and you can apply endless restyling effects... I just happened to go for 'knitted wool'. Consistency between 10-second generations isn't currently possible, but it kind of suited the narrative. I used 'Live Portrait' to animate the characters, acting out the roles of the characters and applying it to a 2D character image before changing to a knitted wool style with RunwayML. My new course on using Live Portrait is now live at https://lnkd.in/ePx_49D7

AI Video's Creative Mistakes and Rethinking Fundamental Processes AI video generation has been getting very good lately, but also strangely, very humorous in the the fails and why these also might matter and could be honored in the creative process for creative process: The Beauty of Unintended Consequences What happens when you ask AI to create "a movie still of a comedy that was never made"? Or "awkward Bigfoot footage"? Key Insights: The Creative Gap The space between what we prompt and what AI delivers isn't just a technical limitation – it's a new form of creative expression. These "mistakes" often capture something more authentic and engaging than our intended beginning explorative outcomes. The Humor and Human in the AI Loop Here's an unintentional brilliance in how AI interprets our prompts. When we ask for "shaky hand-held footage of a sea creature," we get something that feels like a lost clip from the world's most entertaining nature documentary that never existed. The Documentation Paradox While we're all sharing our wins, the "fails" often tell a more interesting story about the creative process. They're windows into how AI thinks and interprets our human concepts and also says something deeper that deserves more analysis. A Deeper Reflection: What if these unintentional moments of humor aren't bugs but medium specificity features of AI video and our human/AI new collaborations? In this way, they reveal something profound about creativity itself – that innovation, creativity, invention and discovery often comes from embracing the unexpected, the imperfect, and yes, even the absurd, not simply 'linear' analytic paths. The Technical Side: Working with tools creative AI tools like Dall-e Runway and others like Minimax below, I've found that the most engaging content often comes from: Embracing randomness in prompt structures Allowing for interpretative freedom Understanding that "perfect" isn't always "interesting" Moving Forward: As we continue to explore AI-generated content, perhaps we need to reframe our perspectives. Are these just technical limitations to overcome or amazing once i n a lifetime opportunities to discover new forms of creative expression. What's your take? Have you encountered any "happy accidents" in your AI creative work? Minimax → Unintentionally Funny. The outtakes are better than the intended. (Borderline absurd) We’ll keep it light on a Saturday. **This is for entertainment purposes only** MJ PROMPT STRUCTURES: 01. movie still of a comedy film that was never made, and a movie we never needed lol --chaos 20 --ar 5:3 --p --v 6.1 02. found footage of an unknown [creature], on the deck of a Chinese fishing boat, surrounded by men proud of their catch --ar 4:5 --stylize 75 --v 6.1 03. Vintage {Trail cam, camcorder} footage of [creature/characters], --p --ar 5:3 --v 6.1 MINIMAX STRUCTURE: [camera motion] as [characters/subject] [action/motion] MINIMAX PROMPT EXAMPLES: 01. the camera dolly pushes in on bigfoot looking around then waving awkwardly at the camera 02. shaky hand-held footage of a sea creature flopping on the deck of a ship comedically causing a man to jump into the ocean 03. Static shot of a funny man blowing up a balloon animal 04. Tracking shot of 2 men walking towards a bodega counter, offering the cashier ice cream QUICK THOUGHTS: + It feels like Minimax has a sense of humor + (I know it doesn’t…but seriously) + While jacked…the animation will improve + Bigfoot footage is actually “awkward” (as intended) + It’s easier to learn the tools + If you’re doing “fun” things + No agenda…no projects…no necessity It doesn’t feel like people share their fails. And that’s the reality of these tools. It’s never a one-click solution. PS: We’re nerding out and having some fun with it on Midjourney : Fast Hours...LINK IN COMMENTS. #minimax #runwayml #midjourney #ai #innovation

AI for the best and the worst ! but AI everything everywhere all at once
Some Friday fun... Proudly presenting: 📽 EPIC TRAILER - THE FILM. A parody of all those AI trailers out there, for my own therapeutic purposes, and your enjoyment :) Many of the shots and uhm, "dialogues", were contributed by my friends Christian Fleischer, Justin Hounkpatin, Abel Art & Machine Mythos. I created this piece on my phone during my 5-minute coffee break, while cooking a paella and driving the kids to school - Because that's what AI trailers are all about! Not a single image was upscaled x8 using Magnific AI, all animations are Motion 5 Default Settings on Runway's Gen2 with no motion brush, and 0 color grading was done in post-prod. 👍

Can VFX take a simple scene and transform it into something explosive? I recently worked on a project where I created a sequence of a host leaping from the top and soaring back into the sky with dynamic nitro effects. This project gave me the opportunity to dive into advanced VFX techniques and merge creativity with precision. Here’s how I brought it to life: Rotoscoping & Masking: Carefully isolating the host to ensure smooth integration with the dynamic background. Overlaying Elements: Adding nitro effects, fire trails, and atmospheric details to enhance depth and realism. Smoke & Dust Simulation: Introducing subtle smoke and dust bursts to create a powerful, larger-than-life impact. Color Grading: Enhancing the visuals with vibrant tones and cinematic contrasts to bring more energy and mood to the scene. AI-Assisted Background Filling: Using AI tools to seamlessly fill and blend background elements, ensuring a natural yet dramatic setting. This project showed how VFX can elevate storytelling by turning imagination into visual reality. What part of this scene stands out to you the most? Let’s discuss how VFX can enhance a narrative through motion and effects! #VFX #VisualEffects #Rotoscoping #NitroEffects #SmokeSimulation #ColorGrading #AIinVFX #CreativeProcess #DigitalArt #FilmProduction #PostProduction

Can we talk about Ai again? Are you tired of hearing about it yet? Please bear with me. There is so much that I have to say. Things are moving so fast in the Generative Ai space and I fear that I've only just scratched the surface. Images and text can create fully moving scenes + special effects. For us rigging artists and animators that's going to mean things that look like cartoons can be created by just about anyone. But the door swings both ways!😆(can I say that here?) By animating a simple skeletal rig, we can provide the input for generative AI to dress them with flesh and clothes and transform them into fully realized animation sequences. I've spent the past 2 or 3 months or so planning and working on this video. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind about Ai. So I would love to hear from you if you're using some of these tools, or just curious about them. https://lnkd.in/gKu32WJU
