Preparing to Ignite Innovation and Collaboration: Updates on NICP Cluster Conferences and National ICT Summit 2024.

Today at Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress in Barcelona, in front of a packed audience of over 100 attendees, FEHRL took the stage to bring the infrastructure perspective into focus for Strengthening European Transport Innovation (#StrengthM). We shared the latest progress on the added value of Physical and Digital Infrastructure adaptations (AUGMENTED CCAM #ACCAM), which are essential to support the future of mobility. Highlights: Showcased pivotal advancements in infrastructure that bridge the gap for tomorrow’s transport. Explored how physical and digital enhancements are enabling seamless, connected mobility solutions. A big thank you to Janis Barbars (FEHRL Board Member and ACCAM project partner) and Gonzalo Alcaraz (International Road Federation (IRF) - Official Deputy Director and ACCAM project partner) for their efforts in organizing, moderating, and sharing their expertise in today’s session! A fair week has passed since the KickStart Europe event. Thank you to everyone who attended, and special thanks to Stijn Grove for once again organizing a fantastic event. KickStart has definitely solidified its place as one of the leading industry events in Europe. But what did this year's event offer? There were truly excellent panels and discussions. Unfortunately, in the afternoon, there were four different tracks, so many interesting topics were left unseen. One main observation and gratitude must be given to some of the panel moderators who truly challenged and engaged the speakers. This clearly led to discussions that went beyond the usual rhetoric. There was much discussion about the current state and future of data center capacity and construction. Surprisingly, AI was mentioned relatively little in discussions. It occurred to me that perhaps the immense change AI is bringing to data center capacities from a FLAP-D perspective wasn't fully grasped, and where the greatest future lies in terms of construction. In CBRE's materials, Finland was somewhat excluded from the growing data center markets across Europe. However, in the AI panel, every speaker listed the Nordic countries, particularly Finland, as the top choice for building. This exclusion has sparked discussion, at least here in Finland. Hopefully, it will be addressed for next year's event. When considering why, here are a few figures that I believe can be compared anywhere in the world. Currently, there is nearly 1000 MW of data center capacity under construction in the Helsinki area alone. When considering the entire Finland, we're talking about capacity close to 2000 MW. I'm sure that with these numpers we can compete with all areas nowdays. Even after these numbers, we still have significantly more capacity, so I believe these figures will grow substantially in the coming years. Today is the start of FTI and& | 16 → 20 March 2024, the Leuven chapter of Flanders Technology & Innovation. We, the Flemish, just like our Wallonian & Brussels' counterparts, we are seldomly proud, we shrug our shoulders and move on to the next thing. We are often prone to easy cynicism, focusing on things that could have been better. We're - on average - not the tech enthusiasts, rather reluctant to embrace change. It's what we tell ourselves. It's my hope this week can contribute to a different story. A story where we can use technology, not as a primary goal, but as a catalyst for the inhabitants of Flanders and beyond to thrive. A story, where we realise we are all talented in our own unique way. As one of the two curators of the festival, I'm proud that thousands of people in my home town will learn about technology and science, get a brain shower, and above all have fun. Exchanging different perspectives, coming together, that's where the magic happens, that's what makes us human. If we've done our job well, people will feel a spark for a positive future. Because that's what we need and it is within reach: We're the current generations, it's in our power to be an incredible force for good for ourselves, our children and the ones that still will be born, the future generations. Yes, we face tremendous challenges and we don't know if all of our efforts will be enough, and that in itself is scary. But if we have the courage to move forward, if we don't fall for cynicism and insecurity, I believe we can thrive. That's what "FTI" has meant to me for the last year.
