It's the 10th year of impact from African Management Institute! So grateful to have been a part of this organisation's journey. Our 2023 Impact Report, titled "10 YEARS AS AN AFRICAN CHAMPION FOR AFRICA'S BUSINESS CHAMPIONS," reflects on our journey of driving business outcomes through skills development and our ambitions for scaling our proven model for massive job and livelihood impact in the coming decade.
For me, it is creating new jobs through SME support that is the most exciting part of our work:
- In 10 years, we have created over 97 000 direct and indirect jobs.
- Last year alone, AMI-supported businesses created over 3200 direct new jobs.
- For every $1 invested in an AMI learning programme, we put $12 in the hands of SME employees in Africa.

RM Seminar Series: Thinking Unusually Panel Wrap Up
At the Resource Mobilisation Workshop, we had the privilege of hosting an insightful panel discussion featuring Modester Mangilani and Tafadzwa Chakuzira. They shared invaluable lessons from their experiences with regional and local NGOs, focusing on how they've explored and navigated alternative means of securing unrestricted funding.
Key Takeaways:
Exploring Uncharted Territories: Both speakers highlighted the importance of embracing new ideas and stepping outside of our comfort zones, despite the risks involved. As Tafadzwa wisely said, "We have a fear of risk, and this makes us fail to attempt or explore ideas raised."
Building a Supportive Foundation: Tafadzwa emphasized that resource mobilisation is a team effort. "We should involve every staff member, from the ancillary staff up, and enable them to understand they are part of the organization's vision. By doing so, we strengthen our marketing base."
Modester Mangilani's Impact:
Modester truly inspired the room with her stories of the incredible achievements at Mhub. Her journey was a testament to the power of bringing ideas to life, motivating participants to take bold steps toward realizing their own visions within their organizations.
Their collective insights left us with the motivation to push beyond our limits and explore untapped possibilities in our pursuit of sustainable funding.

I successfully completed the Governance and Public Innovation Program, co-organized by CAF -banco de desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe- and the Escuela de Gobierno y Políticas Públicas PUCP.
Throughout the program, I explored key topics in society, economy, and politics, as well as governance, political management, and sustainable, inclusive, and collaborative economies. This experience deepened my understanding of the public sector at both national and regional levels, while enhancing my skills in strategic communication to foster effective collaboration between public and private actors.
Additionally, I participated in a group project using Design Thinking, which challenged us to develop an innovative solution to improve local public services. This learning journey enriched my perspective on public policies and boosted my ability to address complex issues from a strategic and inclusive approach, bringing greater value to my career.

Entrepreneur, passionate about cultural communication and engagement, advocating for genuine community relations and development that provide equitable and inclusive access to all.
It was an honor to present at the YWCA USA Leadership Capacity Building Institute (LCBI) on Reimaging a Movement: Fostering Intergenerational & Diverse Leadership to Launch the Mission Forward. Wordy, I know, and yet, a worthy and valuable discussion to have among women leaders in creating a dynamic organizational community culture that encourages collaboration and meaningful participation among diverse individuals by dismantling prohibitive systems and embracing a multifaceted approach.
The YWCA's mission to Eliminate Racism and Empower Women is lofty. Creating access to leadership that is inclusive and equitable does not have a quick and easy solution. Various attempts may have failed; however, there is no reason to stop innovating in search of multifaceted solutions to access. The fear of a degraded meritocracy has made us defensive, unapologetic, and battling to return to a former disparate existence.
Disparate impact is real; initial solutions implemented may fail, and some of us are ready to give up, ignore, and deny the impact. If we claim to favor creative thinking, ingenuity, and progress to transform everyone's life, then let us continue innovating to dismantle the existing disparities. When has Western Civilization backed down from fighting for what is right for all, for the Other?
It IS a beautiful mission - a worthy, strong, and motivating movement!
