Great summary by Furong Li from University of Bath following Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's release of the Digital Spine Feasibility Study that explores the future interoperability of data sharing for the energy system. Looking forward to seeing the outputs from the MVP and how it will include with smart homes/buildings and EV charging solutions. Find links to the report below: https://lnkd.in/eqXcRBdf
Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has released the 𝑫𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑭𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒚 today alongside the government responses. The feasibility study explores the concept of a thin layer of data sharing infrastructure (DSI), first proposed by the Energy Digitalisation Taskforce (EDiT), allowing for secure and interoperable data to be shared to drive a whole system approach. A key recommendation from the consortium (Arup, Energy Systems Catapult, University of Bath) is the development of a minimum viable product (MVP) - adopting an iterative and agile approach to ensure early delivery and sectors-wide adoption and collaboration. DESNZ’s positive response marks an important milestone in our journey to digitalising the energy systems. This is a concrete step towards realising a whole-system approach that brings together large and small energy players in the pursuit of net zero. It serves as a driving force for accelerating innovation, fostering competition, encouraging participation, and enabling mass collaboration. Today`s EconiQ™ High Voltage Day at Hitachi Energy`s GIS factory in Zurich featured insightful presentations and a powerful panel discussion on enabling the sustainable energy transition in Europe, tackling its challenges, and reducing carbon footprint throughout the entire lifecycle. However, the highlight for me was the factory tour and the technology exhibition showcasing EconiQ™, the eco-efficient high-voltage portfolio, including Gas-insulated Switchgear (GIS), Disconnecting Circuit Breaker, and more. TenneT has ambitious goals to decarbonize the supply chain and reduce the CO2 footprint of grid technologies: we aim to reduce absolute Greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in Scope 1 and 2 by 95% by 2030 compared to 2019. We will achieve this by focusing, among others, on the use of sustainable alternatives in high-voltage installations. By 2030, two-thirds of newly installed high-voltage systems will utilize SF6-free technologies. Many thanks to our strategic partner Hitachi Energy for supporting us on this transition. With the eco-efficient EconiQ™ technology you provide an alternative gas mixture and contribute to reducing our CO2 emissions. The energy transition is a generational challenge that cannot be tackled alone. It demands a holistic view of the entire supply chain, complete transparency, innovative and green technologies, and new forms of collaboration. Together with our partners, we lay the foundation for the future zero-carbon energy system. So proud, to be part of it! #LightingTheWayAheadTogether #EnergyTransition #BuildingTheGreenCathedral #GridDecarbonization #Econiq #HitachiEnergy
