📣📣Digital Green Talents Award 2024: High Potentials in Sustainable Development The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) hosts the "Digital GreenTalents - High Potentials in Sustainable Development" #Award to promote the #internationalexchange of innovative #greenideas in the field of #digitalization and #sustainability. It focuses on how digitalization can promote greater sustainability in science and society. With the Green Talents competition, the #BMBF has been promoting the exchange of innovative green ideas and the development of international collaborations since 2009. The award does not fund research projects, but aims to foster individual development. A high-level jury of #Germanexperts will help the ministry in selecting 20 high-potentials to be honored as this year's "Digital GreenTalents". In November 2024, an online awards ceremony will be held. In 2025, all Digital #GreenTalents are invited to come to #Germany for a fully-funded research stay and meet each other at the Digital GreenTalent SpringSchool. The time and duration of the research stay (up to three months) can be arranged individually by each awardee, but is usually linked in time with the #SpringSchool. The deadline for applications is 15 May 2024 ❗️❗️

We were delighted to see Informed Solutions Group CEO Elizabeth Vega OBE, a member of the The Open University’s Research Strategic Advisory Board, supporting and celebrating the (OU) showcase of its open and collaborative research, and to celebrate the academics, staff, students, and industry collaborators that are driving this ethos. In celebrating a range of awards, the OU highlighted world class, high impact research collaboration through its Open Societal Challenges #OSCChallengeUs! initiative. Launched in 2023, the Open Societal Challenges concept goal is to use world-leading research in working with external partners across the themes of #TacklingInequality, #LivingWell and #Sustainability to tackle some of society's most critical challenges. After receiving over 200 potential challenges from internal academics, the University launched the ‘Challenge Us!’ competition for recent graduates, UK charities and Milton Keynes businesses to find the most exciting research ideas for tackling real-world problems. Professor Kevin Shakesheff, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation argues that “Research is just the first step. It’s all about collaboration and applying what we find to see real benefits unfolding in society”, that is how The Open University is approaching research. Huge congratulations to one of the first winners of The open Societal Challenges ChallengeUs! awards - National Trust, for its "Tools to Realise Socio-Economic Benefits from Floodplains Under Restoration" (TREASURE) project. Innovation Marathon Hackathon The Innovation Marathon Hackathon, a central event of the European University Festival, will be a 72-hour hackathon culminating in October 2025 during the festival itself. However, the journey toward this event will begin as early as March 2025 with an official presentation at the European Parliament. During this ceremony, the festival will be formally announced, marking the start of preparatory work involving universities and researchers from across Europe. Starting in March, participating universities will have the opportunity to form interdisciplinary teams and begin developing innovative solutions to climate challenges such as sustainable energy, waste reduction, and urban resilience. This preliminary work will culminate in the Innovation Marathon in October, where projects will be finalized and presented. The Higher Education Authority brought leading academics and researchers together in Dublin yesterday to network and share the innovations and initiatives focused on increasing #agility, #industry #engagement and #impact in education achieve by the HCI pillar 3 projects. I so enjoyed presenting the work the we have been advancing in IKC3 - Ireland's Knowledge Centre for Carbon, Climate and Community Action to support enterprise and the public sector to aquire the #skills and #talent needed to progress in their #sustainability agendas and activities. This focused on the use of #systemsthinking, novel pedagogical approaches, #microcredentials, curated learning journeys, establishing the sustainbility professionals network and the AI powered IKC3 skills platform.
