Cirplus on the road again - this time to FACHPACK! Our Chief Product Officer, Hannes Schwager, and Senior Key Account Manager, Anna Konokova, attended one of Europe's leading trade fairs for packaging, technology and processes in Nuremberg. They came prepared with materials and solutions for plastic packagers who want to prepare for the recycling #quotas of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR). With the PPWR on the horizon, there is still considerable uncertainty in the industry, leading many companies to adopt a cautious wait-and-see approach. However, some forward-thinking companies such as DUO PLAST AG, Profol Europe and NEEMANN LiteFlexPACKAGING GmbH & Co. KG are taking proactive steps to lead the way. We look back on fruitful conversations with industry leaders and showcased our digital sourcing solutions for aggregating high quality Cirplus certified recycled #plastics. We also had important discussions with companies based in Asia as part of our expansion strategy, particularly as India's #recycling quotas for packaging come into force by 2025.

CPHI Milan 2024: Paboco unveils world’s first market-ready paper bottle and cap. One the biggest pharma event of the year, CPHI Milan, just finished in my home town Milan, Italy, from October 8-10, 2024. One of the key novelties came from Paboco - the paper bottle company, which in collaboration with Blue Ocean Closures, unveiled the world’s first market-ready paper bottle with a fiber-based cap. This breakthrough marks a major leap forward in sustainable packaging. Weighing less than 16 grams with a minimal HDPE barrier, the bottle is fully #recyclable as paper and will reach consumers in early 2025. Footnote: Paboco history Paboco was founded with the purpose of embracing and driving the ongoing paper bottle project, an innovation community and platform, joining some of the world's leading experts in materials, design and technology. The project was started by Danish innovation company EcoXpac in 2010, with the Carlsberg Group joining in 2015 to initiate the “The green fibre bottle”, a project where Carlsberg and EcoXpac were collaborating on a first paper bottle prototype based on recycled fibres. In parallel, BillerudKorsnäs was also in the process of exploring the possibilities of another paper bottle product. Evidently, the three companies had assumed a similar challenge, which soon led to a joint #innovation platform. EcoXpac had competence in pulp moulding and tool manufacturing, but needed support on fibre technology, stock preparation, paper making, barriers, upscaling, market opportunities etc. As the project progressed, BillerudKorsnäs became a majority shareholder in EcoXpac. A partnership discussion with bottle manufacturer Alpla was initiated, which ultimately led to the decision to continue the project in a new company suit now called Paboco, the paper bottle company, launched in 2019. BillerudKorsnäs and Alpla share the ambition to drive #packaging innovation in a sustainable direction. They now own equal shares in our company. A minority share is held by Jesper Servé Holding representing the founder family. Francesca Bellucci vincent le guen Mattia Cenci

Spotlight on our traceless-coating! We’re excited to highlight one of our key innovations showcased at FACHPACK 2024 – our traceless® paper coating. 🌿 Designed to replace conventional plastic coatings, our traceless-coating is biobased from agricultural residues, naturally compostable and completely plastic-free – the perfect solution for regenerative packaging. Whether for food service or other applications, it provides the protection needed while minimizing environmental impact. The interest and excitement around this product at FACHPACK were incredible! A special thank you to our partner Mondi Group for the great collaboration in developing the very first stand-up pouch made of Mondi paper coated with traceless – produced in serial production on standard machinery. This is a true example of how our coating offers both sustainability and beneficial barrier properties, for example with its heat sealability. To us, this partnership shows that by working together, we can tackle the biggest challenges in the packaging world and make real progress! #traceless #PaperCoating #SustainablePackaging #PlasticFree #FACHPACK2024 #CircularEconom

After the successful SPE Flexible Packaging Division FlexPackCon® 2023 conference in Montreal with 185 attendees, TAPPI's FlexPack PLACE conference is one of the major technical events for flexible packaging of 2024 in North America, from April 14 to 17. The program is available at: https://lnkd.in/dF3KmbEg A presentation by Alison Keane, President and CEO of the Flexible Packaging Association, is always very relevant. First of all, there's always some very important data to understand where our industry is heading. But in addition, Alison outlines all the association's actions concerning #EPR legislation, the implementation of solutions for the collection, sortation and reprocessing of flexible packaging. Her presentation will be followed by the session on Trends for Flexibles in the Current Times, featuring Scott Trenor of the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR). Two other keynote speakers are on the program: Eric Klingenberg (Mars Advanced Research Institute, MARI) on "Approaches to Improve Recycling and the Role for Compostable", and William Jackson of Amcor Global Flexibles on "The Role of R&D in Driving Product Sustainability and Profitable Growth": "attendees will learn about the role and responsibility of R&D in helping to facilitate and navigate strategic choices that can support short-term and long-term progress toward both objectives. Practical examples of commonly recognized themes and challenges in the value chain will be discussed." I'm a firm believer in this and look forward to listening to this keynote. Two other key sessions: Mitzi Ng Clark (Keller and Heckman LLP) will provide an update on some of the proposed regulatory changes in the domestic and international legislations that can impact the delivery of several important initiatives including drive to remove #PFAS and introduction of EPR regulations. The final session will focus on incorporating #recycling protocols into the design phase, as should always be done in a #circularity approach. Reid Van Lehn, from University of Wisconsin-Madison, Ashish Datt, from Siegwerk, and Deepak Langhe, TD Polymers, will show examples of alternative approaches including changes to selection of materials, process of extrusion and/or method of recycling to enable recycling of different materials. We look forward to seeing you at this event! #flexiblepackaging
