Join Your Fellow Oregonians for this Important Online Debate RESOLVED: THE OREGON RURAL/URBAN DIVIDE IS INSURMOUNTABLE. “Given differences in rural and urban Oregonians' relationships to the land, and their lifestyles, values, and political representation, is it possible today for both sides to accommodate the other's cultural, economic and political interests and priorities?” This is an opportunity to weigh in on an issue of critical importance to all Oregonians and to hear what others have to say. Can we find solutions to this vexing problem? This Debate is presented by Braver Angels, www.braverangels.org, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing political partisanship and strengthening our democratic republic. We plan to follow this online gathering with a series of in-person workshops, hopefully one in each county throughout the state, where we will bring urban and rural Oregonians together to discuss the Divide and look for constructive, mutually agreeable solutions. The episode "The Lottery" from Unrigged offers an insightful exploration of participatory democracy through the lens of citizens' assemblies, such as the one in Halifax. Participants contribute their lived experiences and perspectives, demonstrating the potential for collective, grassroots problem-solving. It’s a refreshing reminder of how people-powered approaches can influence policy, providing much-needed hope and positivity in an often bleak socio-economic landscape. It’s great to see how such initiatives can inspire more inclusive, participatory systems where every voice matters. https://lnkd.in/eQAJdNVH

Like many successful organizations, the Clean River Advisory Council utilizes S.M.A.R.T. goals to push ourselves forward in our advocacy. These precise, actionable goals work on an individual level, and scale up to be used by even the largest Fortune 500 companies. Namely, these goals are specifically, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-constrained. See the worksheet linked below/in our bio by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for some guidance on how to engage your community with these SMART goals! https://lnkd.in/ggSWpXsP

🚨 NEW GREEN PAPER 🚨 If we want to increase the power of communities, we need a fresh philosophy and bold proposals that can enable citizens to create visions for their own areas and give them the resources to put their aspirations into practice. Importantly, we must not confuse devolving power to political institutions with community power. Citizens, individually and collectively, also need to be able to strengthen their own power and not simply rely on state actors. Our new Green Paper, developed in partnership with Power to Change, puts forward a series of proposals for government and policy makers to achieve this. Find out more ⬇ https://lnkd.in/eRBxX3Sd
