Peachtree Corners teen, Lex Stolle, was ten years old and just starting fifth grade when he was diagnosed with high-risk, acute lymphoblastic leukemia. After the diagnosis, he underwent an initial round of chemotherapy to put the disease into remission, followed by 10 months of intense treatments and another two-and-a-half years of monthly maintenance and nightly medicine to keep it there. Now, at 15 years old, Lex says he’s doing better than ever and is committed to using his experience to help others. One way he’s doing that is through his nonprofit fundraising program, Cancer Card. 2024 Cancer Cards are on sale and active through May 25, 2025. Each card is $25. All proceeds go to the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where Stolle received his treatment. Cards can be purchased for Peachtree Corners, Milton/Alpharetta, Dunwoody, Athens and Marietta. The discounts associated with the cards can be used at participating restaurants. To purchase your cards (or make a tax-deductible donation), visit www.cancercard.net. Wolo needs your help! At Wolo Foundation, we know first-hand how it feels to receive a devasting, life-changing cancer diagnosis. No matter how prepared you may think you are when you hear those words for the first time, it changes your life forever. Everyone’s experience, just like their cancer, is different. We strive to be there for our families when they need us. The cost of living crisis has hit everyone hard, and we are trying our best to continually improve the level of services we provide. We are getting new referrals all of the time, and feel passionately about keeping the community open to new members rather than closing it and operating a waiting list. We need to look to the future and plan to ensure our sustainability. Having been through our own cancer journeys, we know exactly how people are feeling - scared about the future, scared of the treatment and its brutal side effects and how to support their children through diagnosis, treatment or grief. There is so little support out there for young families. We want to be there for them through diagnosis, treatment and beyond. We are supporting so many families all across Sussex, who desperately need our help after receiving a devasting cancer diagnosis. In these tough financial times, it is more important than ever that families can reach out to us for support and help. At Wolo, we are also feeling the strain of these times of hardship, trying to navigate a difficult funding climate and we are still faced with the need of securing urgent funds to ensure our vital services can continue. There are a variety of ways you can help. Whether it be volunteering at one of our events, completing a challenge, getting involved as a corporate partner, making a monthly donation, leaving a legacy, putting a collection goblet in your local shop or sponsoring a family - the possibilities are endless, and we need you! Please get in touch if you’d like to help. Thank you. Life is precious, let’s make the most of it! Your support is so very much appreciated. Without you, we wouldn’t be where we are today. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. It is an annual campaign that shines the spotlight on the impact of cancer on children and their families. The month aims to educate the public about paediatric cancer, promote early detection, and support research efforts to develop better treatments and ultimately cures. It is also a time to recognize the strength of children who face cancer as well as the dedication of medical professionals and caregivers who support them. How can you get involved - There are many ways to participate in Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and contribute to the cause: Wear Gold: The gold ribbon is the symbol of childhood cancer awareness. Wearing gold or displaying a gold ribbon during September helps to show your support for the cause. Support Fundraising Events: Participate in or donate to charity runs, walks, or other fundraising events organized to support pediatric cancer research and patient support services. Spread Awareness: Use your voice on social media or in your community to share information about childhood cancer, the importance of early detection, and the need for more research. Volunteer: Offer your time to organizations that support children with cancer and their families, whether through hospital visits, organizing events, or helping with administrative tasks. Educate Yourself and Others: Learn more about the different types of childhood cancers, the challenges of treatment, and the importance of research. Share this knowledge with others to help spread awareness. #childhoodcancerawarenessmonth #gogold #goldribbon

We are donating £1 to Neuroendocrine Cancer UK for every metre of core collected. After our Managing Director, David Hitchcock PhD MRICS FGS, was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer earlier last year, CMS GeoScience Ltd decided to make Neuroendocrine Cancer UK our Charity of the Year. Although still relatively unknown, it is now the 10th most prevalent cancer in England, with cases on the rise and around 6000 people diagnosed every year. Since symptoms often masquerade as indicators of more common illnesses, studies show that the median time from a patient experiencing their first symptom up until their diagnosis is 53.8 months, with 80% of those having visited their GP 11 times, on average. Neuroendocrine Cancer UK is a not-for-profit charity which offers a community for sufferers and their loved ones, supporting them from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. As well as this immediate help, they allocate resources to concentrate on finding longer-term solutions to the challenges that patients face. They are huge advocates of change and improvement of the Neuroendocrine Cancer Pathway; raising awareness, tackling diagnosis delays, pushing research and even working alongside the NHS and politicians. The charity relies solely on private funds, so we have decided to our show support by pledging £1 for every metre of core collected by our geotechnical team for the next year. We are so very proud to play a small part in helping to make a meaningful difference to the lives of those struggling to live with neuroendocrine cancer. To learn more about this disease or find out how you can get involved, please visit the charity’s website: https://lnkd.in/dEGpS4H You can also follow the personal challenge of Ruth Russell, our Senior Executive Officer and Dave’s wife, who has been sea swimming every day since last October to raise money and awareness the disease. Now, on day 255, she would welcome support and encouragement from you all. How can small charities and large charities collaborate? Here’s a genuine and human response about the benefits. Cause before org, always.
As it is #SmallCharityWeek I wanted to talk a little about some of the amazing work I have seen firsthand from small charities across the cancer sector and recognise and celebrate the huge impact that small charities make for people with cancer. At Macmillan Cancer Support we are making big strides in learning how to work more closely with these charities because we know how important their work is. Since joining Macmillan I have met and enjoyed working with several smaller charities and cancer support projects including Coalfields Regeneration Trust, The Rainbow Project in Northern Ireland, Black Women Rising UK, the flagship programme of The Leanne Pero Foundation, Sakoon Through Cancer, Let’s Talk Hope Cancer Support Group with Ameena Westwood, From Me To You with Judith Neptial, Yemeni Community Association London, Shane Ward and the team at West Bromwich African Caribbean Resource Centre, OUTpatients, Alike with Brad Gudger, Black Country Integrated Care Board, Nishkam Civic Association and the Bangladeshi Islamic Centre who are doing fantastic work to support communities and people with cancer. All of these organisations are a lifeline for thousands of people, and an invaluable source of support. It’s not always easy for organisations of different sizes to work effectively together. Different expectations, timelines, resources, accountabilities, priorities, cultures can all get in the way. We haven’t always got it right, but when we do the results are magical. I cycle past this street art every day, and it reminds me that putting the effort in to “go together” is exactly what people with cancer need us to do. We are one part of a complex eco system of 3rd sector organisations who exist to provide support to people where gaps exist. I see how small charities often know their communities and understand the needs of the people they exist to support better than anyone else. I am grateful they exist and are supporting people with cancer every day. I think it is part of our role as a big charity to be a brilliant collaborator and partner so we can all do the most good with the resources we have. We’re still a work in progress on this front but thanks to generous support from some of the organisations above we’re getting better every month. The landscape for charities, big and small is particularly tough right now and only very recently we have seen the closure of much-loved charities who are doing vital work to offer awareness, education and support around cancer. Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Cancer Support Scotland both closed their doors after a combined over 60 years and that loss will be felt by countless people who relied on their services and benefitted from their advocacy. So this Small Charity Week let’s recognise and champion the vital role that small charities play in the voluntary sector and the invaluable contribution they make to their communities. #LoveYourSmallCharity

Sarcoma UK is a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments. They are the only cancer charity in the UK focusing on all types of sarcoma, which is a rare cancer that accounts for around 1% of all cancer diagnoses. The charity has a vision where everyone affected by sarcoma cancer has the treatment, care and support they need. They are also focused on creating the treatments of tomorrow. To achieve this, the charity drives awareness of sarcoma cancer, funds research, provides information and support to those living with sarcoma, and campaigns for better treatments and to improve standards of care. Sarcoma UK was founded in 2011 by Roger Wilson CBE, a sarcoma patient, as a single charity for sarcoma patients, carers and relatives, which united the Sarcoma Trust and Sarcoma UK. Since 2011, the charity has invested around £8 million into scientific and medical research across 98 different research projects. They have also helped more than 5,000 people through the Sarcoma UK support line, as well as worked with national governing bodies, sarcoma specialist centres and many others to advocate for better and earlier treatments for people affected by sarcoma. Today, the charity remains relatively young, but has evolved into an organisation fit for the challenges of the sarcoma community. They are staffed by a talented, growing team, managed by a board of trustees, comprising a balanced mix of those with personal experience of sarcoma and those that bring other specialist skills, while being supported by experts in the sarcoma field. The significant funding provided by the Randal Charitable Foundation in 2024 will help strengthen the charity's crucial Support Line, which provides guidance and support to sarcoma patients and their loved ones. Sarcoma is a rare and complex form of cancer, and the Support Line is a vital resource for those navigating diagnosis, treatment, and the emotional impact of their condition. Over the past year, Sarcoma UK UK's confidential Support Line has received over 5,000 contacts, highlighting its essential role for the sarcoma community. Today marks the end of Testicular Cancer Awareness Month. Each year 2300 men get diagnosed with Testicular Cancer in the UK alone. Thankfully it is usually curable. However, charity donations are still vital for charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support. Donations are vital, not only to fund research but to also support the individuals who are diagnosed with cancer as well as their families. In 2023 the UK public donated just under £14bn to charities. However, some charities still struggle to gain donations and broaden the public's awareness of the subjects they are working to support. One way in which charities could broaden the public's awareness is through the use of AR. There are numerous examples of how charities could utilise AR to increase awareness. One of the ways could be similar to the example below, by creating an interactive quiz. This way you are not only creating an interactive experience for your audience but you are adding value to their experience by educating them and making them aware of the area you are looking to raise awareness in and why they should donate to your cause. Creating an experience such as this will make your cause more memorable which will increase the likelihood of your audience remembering you and subsequently donating to your cause. If you want to make the way in which you acquire donations, modern and innovative. Now is the time to reach your audience differently and stand out from other charities. AR is one of the many modern and innovative ways in which you can organically improve awareness of the cause. If you are interested in finding out more please don't hesitate to get in touch by DM'ing XDW directly.

Why You Should Donate to Help Kick Kids Cancer in the 2024 Great Cycle Challenge This year, I'm gearing up once again for the Great Cycle Challenge, not just for the thrill of the ride, but for a cause that's incredibly close to my heart: fighting kids' cancer. Here's why I'm asking for your support: The Stark Reality: Every year, over 15,700 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer, and tragically, 38 children lose their battle each week. This is a reality that no child or family should have to face. A Personal Challenge: Last year, your support was overwhelming, and it drove me to push my limits. This year, I'm not just cycling for the miles, but for every child who's fighting a battle they shouldn't have to. I've set a goal to raise $2,500, and if I reach this, I'll double my mileage to 400 miles, pushing myself beyond what I thought possible. The Impact of Your Donation: Every dollar you contribute goes directly to the Children's Cancer Research Fund. This isn't just about funding research; it's about giving hope, developing new treatments, and ultimately, finding a cure. Your donation could be the difference between a child enduring treatment or enjoying their childhood. Join the Fight: By donating, you're not just supporting me; you're standing alongside thousands of others who believe in a world where kids can be kids, not cancer patients. Your contribution, no matter the size, adds to a collective effort that could save lives. A Challenge to Myself: I've taken on this challenge not only to raise funds but to get back into shape, proving that it's never too late to make a change. Your support last year helped me see how much I could achieve, and this year, I'm aiming even higher. So, please consider donating to my Great Cycle Challenge. Let's make this year's ride not just a personal victory, but a collective triumph over childhood cancer. Together, we can help these kids live the lives they deserve, free from the fear and pain of cancer. Thank you for your support, and let's ride together to fight kids' cancer!

I'm raising funds to support my nephew Daniel Y.'s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in Maiduguri, Nigeria. Daniel's mission stems from a deeply personal place - he lost his mother to breast cancer when he was just ten years old. Watching her battle the disease for three agonizing years without early detection took a toll on Daniel, leaving him with a determination to prevent other families from experiencing similar pain. Daniel's campaign is part of his National Youth Service Corps Community Development Project, and it's making a significant impact in Maiduguri, a region deeply affected by conflict and displacement. Through his initiative, Daniel aims to educate women and girls about breast cancer, emphasizing the importance of early detection through self-examinations. He's also providing free breast screenings for 100 women in Internally Displaced Peoples (IDP) camps, where access to healthcare is limited and the need is greatest. So far, Daniel has reached 100 girls and women aged 15-60 in one secondary school and one IDP camp. However, a survey he conducted revealed alarming gaps in knowledge and awareness. Only 11% knew how to perform self-examinations, and even fewer were aware of breast lumps or felt comfortable discussing breast cancer with healthcare providers. This data underscores the urgent need for increased awareness and access to medical services in the region. Your support will enable Daniel to expand his campaign to six more schools and IDP camps, reaching even more women and girls with lifesaving information and screenings. Funds raised will also go towards providing female healthcare practitioners to facilitate safe and effective conversations about breast cancer, printing pictographic educational materials in local languages (Kanuri, Hausa, English), distributing sanitary towels to young girls, and providing relief packages to families in IDP camps. Additionally, your donation will help cover the costs of mammograms, breast scans, and further screening services for women over 40 in the IDP camps. By addressing both the immediate and long-term needs of the community, Daniel's campaign seeks to make a lasting impact on the lives of women and families affected by breast cancer in Maiduguri. Together, we can help Daniel save lives, empower women, and create a brighter future for needy communities. Please consider donating to support this vital cause through the link below.
