An early post for a special I/O Coffeehouse. The I/O Coffeehouse gathers once a month for community and conversation with (reasonable) expectations. Join us on the first Wednesday of each month at 11 am Eastern Time. Community is a word we hear and use in both our personal and professional lives; and, like an ecosystem, varies so much according to its environment and conditions. It has a form, a function, a flow, and a feeling, much of which is always in motion. So how do you articulate it? How has it shown up in your life? And if you could begin to define it, what shape would it take, and how does it feel? And does your vision and aspirations of community coincide with the realities of community in your daily life? Joining us September 7th for a very special Coffeehouse is Amanda Cassiday, Co-Founder of Engather, a movement that builds community. Often referred to as the gift economy in the western world, Engather helps us move from a highly individualized and transactional culture to one that is collective and symbiotic. During our time together, Amanda will guide us through group discussion on our relationship to community and how we can incorporate this way of being into our everyday lives through simple yet potent mindset shifts. Our time together will end with a real-time group exercise that will allow folks to deepen their connections with one another.

We’re working on a project with the wonderful ReKindle School. We've joined up the brilliant team at Play Verto, who are helping us to gather the views of the communities we are looking to work with. We had a great meeting yesterday, scoping questions for our ‘Community Verto’ survey. One of of these questions, ‘What two aspects of your community do you appreciate or value the most?’, got us, at Northern Soul, thinking about our own communities 🤔 . The physical and online ones we find ourselves in. We’d love to know, how you, the LinkedIn community, would answer this questions on two fronts: 1. In your local physical community where you live - what two aspects do you value? 2. In this, the online LinkedIn community - what two aspects do you value? We’d love to hear your views below 👇

Erm...'I don't get it.' The dreaded words when people don't understand what you offer. When you're speaking to people you get a chance to see their blank expressions and confused looks, even if they don't tell you to your face that they don't know what you're going on about! Events and expos can be a great way to test out your messaging as you speak to multiple people on the same day. It might mean a few awkward conversations, but it should get you closer to nailing a message that people actually get - as long as you take the subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle hints! If you're heading to Venturefest South later this month and you'd like a few tips on how to get the most from events, drop me a message, and I'll send you our handy, free guide. Patrick Allen

On one of Scott Hanselman meetups (EIndhove), he said something really brilliant: convert people's questions to articles. I was thinking, Wow, during the day I hear or am involved in many discussions, and I can turn my technical advice to an article that may help the wide audience. not only the people involved in the discussion and widen my space. So I will start a series about some technical and/or work/personal hacks (not my expertise, but maybe I give someone some inspiration).
